2Flee to the mountains as a sparrow?
2In the Lord put I my trust: how say ye to my soul, Flee as a bird to your mountain?
3For behold the sinners have bent their [bow], they have prepared their arrows for the quiver, to shoot privily at the upright in heart.
3For, lo, the wicked bend their bow, they make ready their arrow upon the string, that they may privily shoot at the upright in heart.
4For they have pulled down what you did frame, but what has the righteous done?
4If the foundations be destroyed, what can the righteous do?
5The Lord is in his holy temple, as for the Lord, his throne is in heaven: his eyes look upon the poor, his eyelids trythe sons of men.
5The Lord is in his holy temple, the Lord’s throne is in heaven: his eyes behold, his eyelids try, the children of men.
6The Lord tries the righteous and the ungodly: and he that loves unrighteousness hates his own soul .
6The Lord trieth the righteous: but the wicked and him that loveth violence his soul hateth.
7He shall rain upon sinners snares, fire, and brimstone, and a stormy blast [shall be] the portion of their cup.
7Upon the wicked he shall rain snares, fire and brimstone, and an horrible tempest: this shall be the portion of their cup.
8For the Lord [is] righteous, and loves righteousness; his face beholds uprightness.
8For the righteous Lord loveth righteousness; his countenance doth behold the upright.
