2Flee to the mountains as a sparrow?
2For the Chief Musician. By David. In Yahweh, I take refuge. How can you say to my soul, “Flee as a bird to your mountain”?
3Forbeholdthe sinners have bent their [bow], they have prepared their arrows for the quiver, to shoot privily at the upright in heart.
3For, behold, the wicked bend their bows. They set their arrows on the strings, that they may shoot in darkness at the upright in heart.
4For they have pulled down what you did frame, but what has the righteous done?
4If the foundations are destroyed, what can the righteous do?
5The Lord is in his holy temple, as for the Lord, his throne is in heaven: his eyes look upon the poor, his eyelids try the sons of men.
5Yahweh is in his holy temple. Yahweh is on his throne in heaven. His eyes observe. His eyes examine the children of men.
6The Lord tries the righteous and the ungodly: and he that loves unrighteousness hates his own soul.
6Yahweh examines the righteous, but his soul hates the wicked and him who loves violence.
7He shall rain upon sinners snares, fire, and brimstone, and a stormy blast [shall be] the portion of their cup.
7On the wicked he will rain blazing coals; fire, sulfur, and scorching wind shall be the portion of their cup.
8For the Lord [is] righteous, and loves righteousness; his face beholds uprightness.
8For Yahweh is righteous. He loves righteousness. The upright shall see his face.
