1Alleluia. At the going forth of Israel from Egypt, of the house of Jacob from a barbarous people,
1When Israel went out of Egypt, the house of Jacob from a people of strange language;
2Judea became his sanctuary, [and] Israel his dominion.
2Judah was his sanctuary, and Israel his dominion.
3The sea saw and fled: Jordan was turned back.
3The sea saw it, and fled: Jordan was driven back.
4The mountains skipped like rams, and the hills like lambs.
4The mountains skipped like rams, and the little hills like lambs.
5What [ailed] thee, O sea, that thou fleddest? and thou Jordan, that thou wast turned back?
5What ailed thee, O thou sea, that thou fleddest? thou Jordan, that thou wast driven back?
6[Ye] mountains, that ye skipped like rams, and [ye] hills, like lambs?
6Ye mountains, that ye skipped like rams; and ye little hills, like lambs?
7The earth trembled at the presence of the Lord, at the presence of the God of Jacob;
7Tremble, thou earth, at the presence of the Lord, at the presence of the God of Jacob;
8who turned the rock into pools of water, and the flint into fountains of water.
8Which turned the rock into a standing water, the flint into a fountain of waters.
9Not to us, O Lord, not to us, but to thy name give glory, because of thy mercyand thy truth;
9Not unto us, O Lord, not unto us, but unto thy name give glory, for thy mercy, and for thy truth’s sake.
10lest at any time the nations should say, Where is their God?
10Wherefore should the heathen say, Where is now their God?
11But our God has done in heaven and on earth, whatsoever he has pleased.
11But our God is in the heavens: he hath done whatsoever he hath pleased.
12The idols of the nations are silver and gold, the works of men's hands.
12Their idols are silver and gold, the work of men’s hands.
13They have a mouth, but they cannot speak; they have eyes , but they cannot see :
13They have mouths, but they speak not: eyes have they, but they see not:
14they have ears, but they cannot hear; they have noses , but they cannot smell;
14They have ears, but they hear not: noses have they, but they smell not:
15they have hands, but they cannot handle; they have feet , but they cannot walk : they cannot speak through their throat.
15They have hands, but they handle not: feet have they, but they walk not: neither speak they through their throat.
16Let those that make them become like to them, and all who trust in them.
16They that make them are like unto them; so is every one that trusteth in them.
17The house of Israel trusts in the Lord: he is their helper and defender.
17O Israel, trust thou in the Lord: he is their help and their shield.
18The house of Aaron trusts in the Lord: he is their helper and defender.
18O house of Aaron, trust in the Lord: he is their help and their shield.
19They that fear the Lordtrust in the Lord: he is their helper and defender.
19Ye that fear the Lord, trust in the Lord: he is their help and their shield.
20The Lord has remembered us, and blessed us: he has blessed the house of Israel, he has blessed the house of Aaron.
20The Lord hath been mindful of us: he will bless us; he will bless the house of Israel; he will bless the house of Aaron.
21He has blessed them that fear the Lord, both small and great.
21He will bless them that fear the Lord, both small and great.
22The Lord add [blessings] to you and to your children.
22The Lord shall increase you more and more, you and your children.
23Blessed are ye of the Lord, who made the heaven and the earth.
23Ye are blessed of the Lord which made heaven and earth.
24The heaven of heavens [belongs] to the Lord: but he has given the earth to the sons of men.
24The heaven, even the heavens, are the Lord’s: but the earth hath he given to the children of men.
25The dead shall not praise thee, O Lord, nor any that go down to Hades.
25The dead praise not the Lord, neither any that go down into silence.
26But we, the living, will bless the Lord, from henceforth and for ever.
26But we will bless the Lord from this time forth and for evermore. Praise the Lord.
