1(31) For the end, a Psalm of David, [an utterance] of extreme fear. O Lord, I have hoped in you; let me never be ashamed: deliver me in your righteousness and rescue me.
1In thee, O Lord, do I put my trust; let me never be ashamed: deliver me in thy righteousness.
2Incline your ear to me; make haste to rescue me : be you to me for a protecting God, and for a house of refuge to save me.
2Bow down thine ear to me; deliver me speedily: be thou my strong rock, for an house of defence to save me.
3For you are my strength and my refuge; and you shall guide me for your name's sake , and maintain me.
3For thou art my rock and my fortress; therefore for thy name’s sake lead me, and guide me.
4You shall bring me out of the snare which they have hidden for me; for you, O Lord, are my defender.
4Pull me out of the net that they have laid privily for me: for thou art my strength.
5Into your hands I will commit my spirit: you have redeemed me, O Lord God of truth.
5Into thine hand I commit my spirit: thou hast redeemed me, O Lord God of truth.
6You have hated them that idly persist in vanities: but I have hoped in the Lord.
6I have hated them that regard lying vanities: but I trust in the Lord.
7I will exult and be glad in your mercy: for you have looked upon my affliction; you have saved my soul from distresses.
7I will be glad and rejoice in thy mercy: for thou hast considered my trouble; thou hast known my soul in adversities;
8And you have not shut me up into the hands of the enemy: you have set my feet in a wide place.
8And hast not shut me up into the hand of the enemy: thou hast set my feet in a large room.
9Pity me, O Lord, for I am afflicted: my eye is troubled with indignation, my soul and by belly.
9Have mercy upon me, O Lord, for I am in trouble: mine eye is consumed with grief, yea, my soul and my belly.
10For my life is spent with grief, and my years with groanings: my strength has been weakened through poverty, and my bones are troubled.
10For my life is spent with grief, and my years with sighing: my strength faileth because of mine iniquity, and my bones are consumed.
11I became a reproach among all my enemies, but exceedingly so to my neighbors, and a fear to my acquaintance: they that saw me without fled from me.
11I was a reproach among all mine enemies, but especially among my neighbours, and a fear to mine acquaintance: they that did see me without fled from me.
12I have been forgotten as a dead man out of mind: I am become as a broken vessel.
12I am forgotten as a dead man out of mind: I am like a broken vessel.
13For I heard the slander of many that lived round about: when they were gathered together against me, they took counsel to take my life.
13For I have heard the slander of many: fear was on every side: while they took counsel together against me, they devised to take away my life.
14But I hoped in you, O Lord: I said, You are my God.
14But I trusted in thee, O Lord: I said, Thou art my God.
15My lots are in your hands: deliver me from the hand of my enemies,
15My times are in thy hand: deliver me from the hand of mine enemies, and from them that persecute me.
16and from them that persecute me. Make your face to shine upon your servant: save me in your mercy.
16Make thy face to shine upon thy servant: save me for thy mercies’ sake.
17O Lord, let me not be ashamed, for I have called upon you: let the ungodly be ashamed, and brought down to Hades.
17Let me not be ashamed, O Lord; for I have called upon thee: let the wicked be ashamed, and let them be silent in the grave.
18Let the deceitful lips become dumb, which speak iniquity against the righteous with pride and scorn.
18Let the lying lips be put to silence; which speak grievous things proudly and contemptuously against the righteous.
19How abundant is the multitude of your goodness, O Lord, which you have laid up for them that fear you! you have wrought [it] out for them that hope on you, in the presence of the sons of men.
19Oh how great is thy goodness, which thou hast laid up for them that fear thee; which thou hast wrought for them that trust in thee before the sons of men!
20You will hide them in the secret of your presence from the vexation of man: you will screen them in a tabernacle from the contradiction of tongues.
20Thou shalt hide them in the secret of thy presence from the pride of man: thou shalt keep them secretly in a pavilion from the strife of tongues.
21Blessed be the Lord: for he has magnified his mercy in a fortified city.
21Blessed be the Lord: for he hath shewed me his marvellous kindness in a strong city.
22But I said in my extreme fear, I am cast out from the sight of your eyes: therefore you did listen, O Lord, to the voice of my supplication when I cried to you.
22For I said in my haste, I am cut off from before thine eyes: nevertheless thou heardest the voice of my supplications when I cried unto thee.
23Love the Lord, all you⌃ his saints: for the Lord seeks for truth, and renders [a reward] to them that deal very proudly.
23O love the Lord, all ye his saints: for the Lord preserveth the faithful, and plentifully rewardeth the proud doer.
24Be of good courage, and let your heart be strengthened, all you⌃ that hope in the Lord.
24Be of good courage, and he shall strengthen your heart, all ye that hope in the Lord.
