King James Version

2Hear these words, all ye nations, hearken, all ye that dwell upon the earth:
2Hear this, all ye people; give ear, all ye inhabitants of the world:
3both the sons of mean men, and sons of [great] men; the rich and poor [man] together.
3Both low and high, rich and poor, together.
4My mouth shall speak of wisdom; and the meditation of my heart shall bring [forth] understanding.
4My mouth shall speak of wisdom; and the meditation of my heart shall be of understanding.
5I will incline mine ear to a parable: I will open my riddle on the harp.
5I will incline mine ear to a parable: I will open my dark saying upon the harp.
6Wherefore should I fear in the evil day? the iniquity of my heel shall compass me.
6Wherefore should I fear in the days of evil, when the iniquity of my heels shall compass me about?
7They that trust in their strength, and boast themselves in the multitude of their wealth—
7They that trust in their wealth, and boast themselves in the multitude of their riches;
8A brother does not redeem , shall a man redeem? he shall not give to God a ransom for himself,
8None of them can by any means redeem his brother, nor give to God a ransom for him:
9or the price of the redemption of his soul , though he labour for ever,
9(For the redemption of their soul is precious, and it ceaseth for ever:)
10and live to the end, [so] that he should not see corruption.
10That he should still live for ever, and not see corruption.
11When he shall see wise men dying, the fool and the senseless one shall perish together; and they shall leave their wealth to strangers.
11For he seeth that wise men die, likewise the fool and the brutish person perish, and leave their wealth to others.
12And their sepulchres are their houses for ever, [even] their tabernacles to all generations: they have called their lands after their own names.
12Their inward thought is, that their houses shall continue for ever, and their dwelling places to all generations; they call their lands after their own names.
13And man being in honour, understands not: he is compared to the senseless cattle, and is like to them.
13Nevertheless man being in honour abideth not: he is like the beasts that perish.
14This their way is an offence to them: yet afterwards men will commend their sayings. Pause.
14This their way is their folly: yet their posterity approve their sayings. Selah.
15They have laid [them] as sheep in Hades; death shall feed on them; and the upright shall have dominion over them in the morning, and their help shall fail in Hades from their glory.
15Like sheep they are laid in the grave; death shall feed on them; and the upright shall have dominion over them in the morning; and their beauty shall consume in the grave from their dwelling.
16But God shall deliver my soul from the power of Hades, when he shall receive me. Pause.
16But God will redeem my soul from the power of the grave: for he shall receive me. Selah.
17Fear not when a man is enriched, and when the glory of his house is increased.
17Be not thou afraid when one is made rich, when the glory of his house is increased;
18For he shall take nothing when he dies; neither shall his glory descend with him.
18For when he dieth he shall carry nothing away: his glory shall not descend after him.
19For his soul shall be blessed in his life: he shall give thanks to theewhen thou dost well to him.
19Though while he lived he blessed his soul: and men will praise thee, when thou doest well to thyself.
20[Yet] he shall go in to the generation of his fathers; he shall never see light.
20He shall go to the generation of his fathers; they shall never see light.
21Man that is in honour, understands not: he is compared to the senseless cattle, and is like them.
21Man that is in honour, and understandeth not, is like the beasts that perish.
