1(63) A Psalm of David, when he was in the wilderness of Idumea. O God, my God, I cry to you early; my soul has thirsted for you: how often has my flesh [longed] after you, in a barren and trackless and dry land!
1O God, thou art my God; early will I seek thee: my soul thirsteth for thee, my flesh longeth for thee in a dry and thirsty land, where no water is;
2Thus have I appeared before you in the sanctuary, that I might see your power and your glory.
2To see thy power and thy glory, so as I have seen thee in the sanctuary.
3For your mercy is better than life: my lips shall praise you.
3Because thy lovingkindness is better than life, my lips shall praise thee.
4Thus will I bless you during my life: I will lift up my hands in your name.
4Thus will I bless thee while I live: I will lift up my hands in thy name.
5Let my soul be filled as with marrow and fatness; and [my] joyful lips shall praise your name.
5My soul shall be satisfied as with marrow and fatness; and my mouth shall praise thee with joyful lips:
6Forasmuch as I have remembered you on my bed: in the early seasons I have meditated on you.
6When I remember thee upon my bed, and meditate on thee in the night watches.
7For you have been my helper, and in the shelter of your wings will I rejoice.
7Because thou hast been my help, therefore in the shadow of thy wings will I rejoice.
8My soul has kept very close behind you: your right hand has upheld me.
8My soul followeth hard after thee: thy right hand upholdeth me.
9But they vainly sought after my soul; they shall go into the lowest parts o the earth.
9But those that seek my soul, to destroy it, shall go into the lower parts of the earth.
10They shall be delivered up to the power of the sword; they shall be portions for foxes.
10They shall fall by the sword: they shall be a portion for foxes.
11But the king shall rejoice in God; every one that swears by him shall be praised; for the mouth of them that speak unjust things has been stopped.
11But the king shall rejoice in God; every one that sweareth by him shall glory: but the mouth of them that speak lies shall be stopped.
