2Save me, O God; for the waters have come in to my soul.
2Save me, O God; for the waters are come in unto my soul.
3I am stuck fast in deep mire, and there is no standing: I am come in to the depths of the sea, and a storm has overwhelmed me.
3I sink in deep mire, where there is no standing: I am come into deep waters, where the floods overflow me.
4I am weary [of] crying, my throat has become hoarse; mine eyes have failed by my waiting on my God.
4I am weary of my crying: my throat is dried: mine eyes fail while I wait for my God.
5They that hate me without a cause are more than the hairs of my head: my enemies that persecute me unrighteously are strengthened: then I restored that which I took not away.
5They that hate me without a cause are more than the hairs of mine head: they that would destroy me, being mine enemies wrongfully, are mighty: then I restored that which I took not away.
6O God, thou knowest my foolishness; and my transgressions are not hidden from thee.
6O God, thou knowest my foolishness; and my sins are not hid from thee.
7Let not them that wait on thee, O Lord of hosts, be ashamed on my account: let not them that seek thee, be ashamed on my account, O God of Israel.
7Let not them that wait on thee, O Lord God of hosts, be ashamed for my sake: let not those that seek thee be confounded for my sake, O God of Israel.
8For I have suffered reproach for thy sake ; shame has covered my face.
8Because for thy sake I have borne reproach; shame hath covered my face.
9I became strange to my brethren, and a stranger to my mother's children.
9I am become a stranger unto my brethren, and an alien unto my mother’s children.
10For the zeal of thine house has eaten me up; and the reproaches of them that reproached thee are fallen upon me.
10For the zeal of thine house hath eaten me up; and the reproaches of them that reproached thee are fallen upon me.
11And I bowed down my soul with fasting, and that was made my reproach.
11When I wept, and chastened my soul with fasting, that was to my reproach.
12And I put on sackcloth for my covering; and I became a proverb to them.
12I made sackcloth also my garment; and I became a proverb to them.
13They that sit in the gate talked against me, and they that drank wine sang against me.
13They that sit in the gate speak against me; and I was the song of the drunkards.
14But I [will cry] to thee, O Lord, in my prayer; O God, it is a propitious time: in the multitude of thy mercy hear me, in the truth of thy salvation.
14But as for me, my prayer is unto thee, O Lord, in an acceptable time: O God, in the multitude of thy mercy hear me, in the truth of thy salvation.
15Save me from the mire, that I stick not [in it]: let me be delivered from them that hate me, and from the deep waters.
15Deliver me out of the mire, and let me not sink: let me be delivered from them that hate me, and out of the deep waters.
16Let not the waterflood drown me, nor let the deep swallow me up; neither let the well shut its mouth upon me.
16Let not the waterflood overflow me, neither let the deep swallow me up, and let not the pit shut her mouth upon me.
17Hear me, O Lord; for thy mercy is good: according to the multitude of thy compassions look upon me.
17Hear me, O Lord; for thy lovingkindness is good: turn unto me according to the multitude of thy tender mercies.
18And turn not away thy face from thy servant; for I am afflicted: hear me speedily.
18And hide not thy face from thy servant; for I am in trouble: hear me speedily.
19Draw nigh to my souland redeem it: deliver me because of mine enemies.
19Draw nigh unto my soul, and redeem it: deliver me because of mine enemies.
20For thou knowest my reproach, and my shame, and my confusion; all that afflict me are before thee.
20Thou hast known my reproach, and my shame, and my dishonour: mine adversaries are all before thee.
21My soul has waited for reproach and misery; and I waited for one to grieve with me, but there was none; and for one to comfort me, but I found none.
21Reproach hath broken my heart; and I am full of heaviness: and I looked for some to take pity, but there was none; and for comforters, but I found none.
22They gave [me] also gall for my food, and made me drink vinegar for my thirst .
22They gave me also gall for my meat; and in my thirst they gave me vinegar to drink.
23Let their table before them be for a snare, and for a recompence, and for a stumbling-block.
23Let their table become a snare before them: and that which should have been for their welfare, let it become a trap.
24Let their eyes be darkenedthat they should not see ; and bow down their back continually .
24Let their eyes be darkened, that they see not; and make their loins continually to shake.
25Pour out thy wrath upon them, and let the fury of thine anger take hold on them.
25Pour out thine indignation upon them, and let thy wrathful anger take hold of them.
26Let their habitation be made desolate; and let there be no inhabitant in their tents:
26Let their habitation be desolate; and let none dwell in their tents.
27because they persecuted him whom thou hast smitten; and they have added to the grief of my wounds.
27For they persecute him whom thou hast smitten; and they talk to the grief of those whom thou hast wounded.
28Add iniquity to their iniquity; and let them not come into thy righteousness.
28Add iniquity unto their iniquity: and let them not come into thy righteousness.
29Let them be blotted out of the book of the living, and let them not be written with the righteous.
29Let them be blotted out of the book of the living, and not be written with the righteous.
30I am poor and sorrowful; but the salvation of thy countenance has helped me .
30But I am poor and sorrowful: let thy salvation, O God, set me up on high.
31I will praise the name of my God with a song, I will magnify him with praise;
31I will praise the name of God with a song, and will magnify him with thanksgiving.
32and [this] shall please God more than a young calf having horns and hoofs.
32This also shall please the Lord better than an ox or bullock that hath horns and hoofs.
33Let the poor see and rejoice; seek the Lord diligently, and ye shall live .
33The humble shall see this, and be glad: and your heart shall live that seek God.
34For the Lord hears the poor, and does not set at nought his fettered ones.
34For the Lord heareth the poor, and despiseth not his prisoners.
35Let the heavens and the earth praise him, the sea, and all things moving in them.
35Let the heaven and earth praise him, the seas, and every thing that moveth therein.
36For God will save Sion, and the cities of Judea shall be built; and [men] shall dwell there, and inherit it .
36For God will save Zion, and will build the cities of Judah: that they may dwell there, and have it in possession.
37And the seed of his servants shall possess it, and they that love his name shall dwell therein.
37The seed also of his servants shall inherit it: and they that love his name shall dwell therein.
