1By David, [a Psalm sung by] the sons of Jonadab, and the first that were taken captive. O Lord, I have hoped in thee: let me never be put to shame.
1In thee, O Lord, do I put my trust: let me never be put to confusion.
2In thy righteousness deliver me and rescue me : incline thine ear to me, and save me.
2Deliver me in thy righteousness, and cause me to escape: incline thine ear unto me, and save me.
3Be to me a protecting God, and a strong hold to save me: for thou art my fortress and my refuge.
3Be thou my strong habitation, whereunto I may continually resort: thou hast given commandment to save me; for thou art my rock and my fortress.
4Deliver me, O my God, from the hand of the sinner, from the hand of the transgressor and unjust man.
4Deliver me, O my God, out of the hand of the wicked, out of the hand of the unrighteous and cruel man.
5For thou art my support, O Lord; O Lord, [thou art] my hope from my youth.
5For thou art my hope, O Lord God: thou art my trust from my youth.
6On thee have I been stayed from the womb: from the belly of my mother thou art my protector: of thee is my praise continually .
6By thee have I been holden up from the womb: thou art he that took me out of my mother’s bowels: my praise shall be continually of thee.
7I am become as it were a wonder to many; but thou art [my] strong helper.
7I am as a wonder unto many; but thou art my strong refuge.
8Let my mouth be filled with praise, that I may hymn thy glory, [and] thy majesty all the day.
8Let my mouth be filled with thy praise and with thy honour all the day.
9Cast me not off at the time of old age; forsake me not when my strength fails.
9Cast me not off in the time of old age; forsake me not when my strength faileth.
10For mine enemies have spoken against me; and they that lay wait for my soul have taken counsel together,
10For mine enemies speak against me; and they that lay wait for my soul take counsel together,
11saying, God has forsaken him: persecute ye and take him; for there is none to deliver [him].
11Saying, God hath forsaken him: persecute and take him; for there is none to deliver him.
12O God, go not far from me, O my God, draw nigh to my help.
12O God, be not far from me: O my God, make haste for my help.
13Let those that plot against my soulbe ashamed and utterly fail: let those that seek my hurt be clothed with shame and dishonour.
13Let them be confounded and consumed that are adversaries to my soul; let them be covered with reproach and dishonour that seek my hurt.
14But I will hope continually, and will praise thee more and more.
14But I will hope continually, and will yet praise thee more and more.
15My mouth shall declare thy righteousness openly, [and] thy salvation all the day; for I am not acquainted with the affairs [of men].
15My mouth shall shew forth thy righteousness and thy salvation all the day; for I know not the numbers thereof.
16I will go on in the might of the Lord : O Lord, I will make mention of thy righteousnessonly.
16I will go in the strength of the Lord God: I will make mention of thy righteousness, even of thine only.
17O God, thou hast taught me from my youth, and until now will I declare thy wonders;
17O God, thou hast taught me from my youth: and hitherto have I declared thy wondrous works.
18even until I am old and advanced in years. O God, forsake me not; until I shall have declared thine arm to all the generationthat is to come:
18Now also when I am old and grayheaded, O God, forsake me not; until I have shewed thy strength unto this generation, and thy power to every one that is to come.
19even thy power and thy righteousness , O God, up to the highest [heavens, even] the mighty works which thou hast done : O God, who is like to thee?
19Thy righteousness also, O God, is very high, who hast done great things: O God, who is like unto thee!
20What afflictions many and sore hast thou shewed me! yet thou didst turn and quicken me , and broughtest me again from the depths of the earth.
20Thou, which hast shewed me great and sore troubles, shalt quicken me again, and shalt bring me up again from the depths of the earth.
21Thou didst multiply thy righteousness, and didst turn and comfort me, and broughtest me again out of the depths of the earth.
21Thou shalt increase my greatness, and comfort me on every side.
22I will also therefore give thanks to thee , O God, [because of] thy truth, on an instrument of psalmody: I will sing psalms to thee on the harp, O Holy One of Israel.
22I will also praise thee with the psaltery, even thy truth, O my God: unto thee will I sing with the harp, O thou Holy One of Israel.
23My lips shall rejoice when I sing to thee; and my soul, which thou hast redeemed.
23My lips shall greatly rejoice when I sing unto thee; and my soul, which thou hast redeemed.
24Moreover also my tongue shall dwell all the day upon thy righteousness; when they shall be ashamed and confoundedthat seek my hurt.
24My tongue also shall talk of thy righteousness all the day long: for they are confounded, for they are brought unto shame, that seek my hurt.
