1And it came to pass after Isaac was old, that his eyes were dimmed so that he could not see; and he called Esau, his elder son, and said to him, My son; and he said , Behold, I [am here].
1And it came to pass, that when Isaac was old, and his eyes were dim, so that he could not see, he called Esau his eldest son, and said unto him, My son: and he said unto him, Behold, here am I.
2And he said, Behold , I am grown old, and know not the day of my death.
2And he said, Behold now, I am old, I know not the day of my death:
3Now then takethy weapons, both thy quiver and thy bow, and go into the plain, and get me venison,
3Now therefore take, I pray thee, thy weapons, thy quiver and thy bow, and go out to the field, and take me some venison;
4and make me meats, as I like them, and bring them to methat I may eat, that my soul may bless thee, before I die.

5And Rebecca heard Isaac speaking to Esau his son; and Esau went to the plain to procure venison for his father.

6And Rebecca said to Jacob her younger son, Behold, I heard thy father speaking to Esau thy brother, saying,

7Bring me venison, and prepare me meats, that I may eatand bless thee before the Lord before I die.
7Bring me venison, and make me savoury meat, that I may eat, and bless thee before the Lord before my death.
8Now then, my son, hearken to me, as I command thee.
8Now therefore, my son, obey my voice according to that which I command thee.
9And go to the cattle and take for me thence two kids, tender and good, and I will make them meats for thy father, as he likes.
9Go now to the flock, and fetch me from thence two good kids of the goats; and I will make them savoury meat for thy father, such as he loveth:
10And thou shalt bring them in to thy father, and he shall eat, that thy father may bless thee before he dies.
10And thou shalt bring it to thy father, that he may eat, and that he may bless thee before his death.
11And Jacob said to his mother Rebecca, Esau my brother is a hairy man, and I a smooth man.
11And Jacob said to Rebekah his mother, Behold, Esau my brother is a hairy man, and I am a smooth man:
12Peradventure my father may feel me, and I shall be before him as one ill-intentioned, and I shall bring upon me a curse , and not a blessing.
12My father peradventure will feel me, and I shall seem to him as a deceiver; and I shall bring a curse upon me, and not a blessing.
13And his mother said to him, On me be thy curse, son; only hearken to my voice, and go and bring [them] me .
13And his mother said unto him, Upon me be thy curse, my son: only obey my voice, and go fetch me them.
14So he wentand took and brought them to his mother; and his mother made meats, as his father liked [them].
14And he went, and fetched, and brought them to his mother: and his mother made savoury meat, such as his father loved.
15And Rebecca having taken the fine raiment of her elder son Esauwhich was with her in the house, put it on Jacob her younger son.
15And Rebekah took goodly raiment of her eldest son Esau, which were with her in the house, and put them upon Jacob her younger son:
16And she put on his arms the skins of the kids , and on the bare parts of his neck.
16And she put the skins of the kids of the goats upon his hands, and upon the smooth of his neck:
17And she gave the meats, and the loaves which she had prepared, into the hands of Jacob her son .
17And she gave the savoury meat and the bread, which she had prepared, into the hand of her son Jacob.
18And he brought [them] to his father, and said, Father; and he said, Behold I [am here]; who art thou, son?
18And he came unto his father, and said, My father: and he said, Here am I; who art thou, my son?
19And Jacob said to his father, I, Esau thy first-born, have done as thou toldest me; rise, sit, and eat of my venison, that thy soul may bless me.
19And Jacob said unto his father, I am Esau thy firstborn; I have done according as thou badest me: arise, I pray thee, sit and eat of my venison, that thy soul may bless me.
20And Isaac said to his son, What is this which thou hast quickly found ? And he said, That which the Lord thy God presented before me.
20And Isaac said unto his son, How is it that thou hast found it so quickly, my son? And he said, Because the Lord thy God brought it to me.
21And Isaac said to Jacob, Draw nigh to me, and I will feel thee, son, if thou art my son Esau or not.
21And Isaac said unto Jacob, Come near, I pray thee, that I may feel thee, my son, whether thou be my very son Esau or not.
22And Jacob drew nigh to his father Isaac, and he felt him, and said, The voice [is] Jacob's voice, but the hands [are] the hands of Esau.
22And Jacob went near unto Isaac his father; and he felt him, and said, The voice is Jacob’s voice, but the hands are the hands of Esau.
23And he knew him not, for his hands were as the hands of his brother Esau, hairy; and he blessed him,
23And he discerned him not, because his hands were hairy, as his brother Esau’s hands: so he blessed him.
24and he said, Art thou my son Esau? and he said, I [am].
24And he said, Art thou my very son Esau? And he said, I am.
25And he said, Bring hither, and I will eat of thy venison, son, that my soul may bless thee; and he brought [it] near to him, and he ate, and he brought him wine, and he drank.
25And he said, Bring it near to me, and I will eat of my son’s venison, that my soul may bless thee. And he brought it near to him, and he did eat: and he brought him wine, and he drank.
26And Isaac his father said to him, Draw nigh to me, and kiss me, son.
26And his father Isaac said unto him, Come near now, and kiss me, my son.
27And he drew nigh and kissed him, and smelled the smell of his garments, and blessed him, and said, Behold, the smell of my son is as the smell of an abundant field, which the Lord has blessed.
27And he came near, and kissed him: and he smelled the smell of his raiment, and blessed him, and said, See, the smell of my son is as the smell of a field which the Lord hath blessed:
28And may God give thee of the dew of heaven, and of the fatness of the earth, and abundance of corn and wine.
28Therefore God give thee of the dew of heaven, and the fatness of the earth, and plenty of corn and wine:
29And let nations serve thee, and princes bow down to thee, and be thou lord of thy brother, and the sons of thy father shall do thee reverence; accursed is he that curses thee, and blessed is he that blesses thee.
29Let people serve thee, and nations bow down to thee: be lord over thy brethren, and let thy mother’s sons bow down to thee: cursed be every one that curseth thee, and blessed be he that blesseth thee.
30And it came to pass after Isaac had ceased blessing his son Jacob, it even came to pass, just when Jacob had gone out from the presence of Isaac his father, that Esau his brother came in from his hunting.
30And it came to pass, as soon as Isaac had made an end of blessing Jacob, and Jacob was yet scarce gone out from the presence of Isaac his father, that Esau his brother came in from his hunting.
31And he also had made meats and brought them to his father; and he said to his father, Let my father ariseand eat of his son's venison, that thy soul may bless me.
31And he also had made savoury meat, and brought it unto his father, and said unto his father, Let my father arise, and eat of his son’s venison, that thy soul may bless me.
32And Isaac his father said to him, Who art thou? And he said, I am thy first-born sonEsau.

33And Isaac was amazed with very great amazement, and said, Who then is it that has procured venison for me and brought it to me? and I have eaten of all before thou camest, and I have blessed him, and he shall be blessed.
33And Isaac trembled very exceedingly, and said, Who? where is he that hath taken venison, and brought it me, and I have eaten of all before thou camest, and have blessed him? yea, and he shall be blessed.
34And it came to pass when Esau heard the words of his father Isaac, he cried out with a great and very bitter cry, and said , Bless , I pray thee, me also, father.
34And when Esau heard the words of his father, he cried with a great and exceeding bitter cry, and said unto his father, Bless me, even me also, O my father.
35And he said to him, Thy brother has come with subtlety, and taken thy blessing.
35And he said, Thy brother came with subtilty, and hath taken away thy blessing.
36And he said, Rightly was his name called Jacob, for lo! this second time has he supplanted me; he has both taken my birthright, andnow he has taken my blessing; and Esau said to his father, Hast thou not left a blessing for me, father?
36And he said, Is not he rightly named Jacob? for he hath supplanted me these two times: he took away my birthright; and, behold, now he hath taken away my blessing. And he said, Hast thou not reserved a blessing for me?
37And Isaac answered and said to Esau, If I have made him thy lord, and have made all his brethren his servants, and have strengthened him with corn and wine, what then shall I do for thee, son?
37And Isaac answered and said unto Esau, Behold, I have made him thy lord, and all his brethren have I given to him for servants; and with corn and wine have I sustained him: and what shall I do now unto thee, my son?
38And Esau said to his father, Hast thou [only] one blessing, father? Bless, I pray thee, me also, father. And Isaac being troubled, Esau cried aloud and wept.
38And Esau said unto his father, Hast thou but one blessing, my father? bless me, even me also, O my father. And Esau lifted up his voice, and wept.
39And Isaac his father answered and said to him, Behold, thy dwelling shall be of the fatness of the earth, and of the dew of heaven from above.
39And Isaac his father answered and said unto him, Behold, thy dwelling shall be the fatness of the earth, and of the dew of heaven from above;
40And thou shalt live by thy sword , and shalt serve thy brother; and there shall be [a time] when thou shalt break and loosen his yoke from off thy neck.

41And Esau was angry with Jacob because of the blessing, with which his father blessed him; and Esau said in his mind, Let the days of my father's mourning draw nigh, that I may slay my brother Jacob.
41And Esau hated Jacob because of the blessing wherewith his father blessed him: and Esau said in his heart, The days of mourning for my father are at hand; then will I slay my brother Jacob.
42And the words of Esau her elder son were reported to Rebecca, and she sent and called Jacob her younger son, and said to him, Behold, Esau thy brother threatens theeto kill thee.
42And these words of Esau her elder son were told to Rebekah: and she sent and called Jacob her younger son, and said unto him, Behold, thy brother Esau, as touching thee, doth comfort himself, purposing to kill thee.
43Now then, my son, hear my voice, and rise and depart quickly into Mesopotamia to Laban my brother into Charran.
43Now therefore, my son, obey my voice; and arise, flee thou to Laban my brother to Haran;
44And dwell with him certain days, until thy brother's anger
44And tarry with him a few days, until thy brother’s fury turn away;
45and rage depart from thee, and he forget what thou hast done to him; and I will sendand fetch thee thence, lest at any time I should be bereaved of you both in one day.
45Until thy brother’s anger turn away from thee, and he forget that which thou hast done to him: then I will send, and fetch thee from thence: why should I be deprived also of you both in one day?
46And Rebecca said to Isaac, I am weary of my life, because of the daughters of the sons of Chet; if Jacob shall take a wife of the daughters of this land, wherefore should I live?
46And Rebekah said to Isaac, I am weary of my life because of the daughters of Heth: if Jacob take a wife of the daughters of Heth, such as these which are of the daughters of the land, what good shall my life do me?
1And Isaac having called for Jacob, blessed him, and charged him, saying, Thou shalt not take a wife of the daughters of the Chananites.

2Rise and depart quickly into Mesopotamia, to the house of Bathuel the father of thy mother, and take to thyself thence a wife of the daughters of Laban thy mother's brother.

3And may my God bless thee, and increase thee , and multiply thee, and thou shalt become gatherings of nations.

4And may he give thee the blessing of my father Abraam, even to theeand to thy seed after thee, to inherit the land of thy sojourning, which God gave to Abraam.
4And give thee the blessing of Abraham, to thee, and to thy seed with thee; that thou mayest inherit the land wherein thou art a stranger, which God gave unto Abraham.
5So Isaac sent away Jacob, and he went into Mesopotamia to Laban the son of Bethuel the Syrian, the brother of Rebecca the mother of Jacoband Esau.
5And Isaac sent away Jacob: and he went to Padan–aram unto Laban, son of Bethuel the Syrian, the brother of Rebekah, Jacob’s and Esau’s mother.
6And Esau saw that Isaac blessed Jacob, and sent him away to Mesopotamia of Syria as he blessed him, to take to himself a wife thence, and [that] he charged him , saying, Thou shalt not take a wife of the daughters of the Chananites;
6When Esau saw that Isaac had blessed Jacob, and sent him away to Padan–aram, to take him a wife from thence; and that as he blessed him he gave him a charge, saying, Thou shalt not take a wife of the daughters of Canaan;
7and [that] Jacob hearkened to his father and his mother, and went to Mesopotamia of Syria.

8And Esau also having seen that the daughters of Chanaan were evil before his father Isaac,

9Esau went to Ismael, and took Maeleth the daughter of Ismael, the son of Abraam, the sister of Nabeoth, a wife in addition to his [other] wives.

10And Jacob went forth from the well of the oath, and departed into Charrhan.

11And came to a certain placeand slept there , for the sun had gone down; and he took [one] of the stones of the place, and put it at his head, and lay down to sleep in that place,
11And he lighted upon a certain place, and tarried there all night, because the sun was set; and he took of the stones of that place, and put them for his pillows, and lay down in that place to sleep.
12and dreamed, and behold a ladder fixed on the earth, whose top reached to heaven, and the angels of God ascended and descended on it.

13Andthe Lord stood upon it, and said, I am the God of thy father Abraam, and the God of Isaac; fear not, the land on which thou liest, to thee will I give it, and to thy seed.
13And, behold, the Lord stood above it, and said, I am the Lord God of Abraham thy father, and the God of Isaac: the land whereon thou liest, to thee will I give it, and to thy seed;
14And thy seed shall be as the sand of the earth; and it shall spread abroad to the sea, and the south, and the north, and to the east; and in thee and in thy seed shall all the tribes of the earth be blessed.
14And thy seed shall be as the dust of the earth, and thou shalt spread abroad to the west, and to the east, and to the north, and to the south: and in thee and in thy seed shall all the families of the earth be blessed.
15AndbeholdI am with thee to preserve thee continually in all the way wherein thou shalt go; and I will bring thee back to this land; for I will not desert thee, until I have done all that I have said to thee .
15And, behold, I am with thee, and will keep thee in all places whither thou goest, and will bring thee again into this land; for I will not leave thee, until I have done that which I have spoken to thee of.
16And Jacob awaked out of his sleep, and said, The Lord is in this place, and I knew it not.
16And Jacob awaked out of his sleep, and he said, Surely the Lord is in this place; and I knew it not.
17And he was afraid, and said, How fearful is this place! this is none other than the house of God, and this is the gate of heaven.

18And Jacob rose up in the morning, and took the stone he [had] laid there by his head, and he set it up [as] a pillar, and poured oil on the top of it.

19And he called the name of that place, the House of God; and the name of the city before was Ulam-luz.

20And Jacob vowed a vow, saying, If the Lord God will be with me, and guard me throughout on this journey, on which I am going, and give me bread to eat, and raiment to put on,

21and bring me back in safety to the house of my father, then shall the Lord be for a God to me.

22And this stone, which I have set up for a pillar, shall be to me a house of God; and of all whatsoever thou shalt give me, I will tithe a tenth for thee.
