1And all the earth was one lip, and there was one language to all.
1And the whole earth was of one language, and of one speech.
2And it came to passas they moved from the east, they found a plain in the land of Senaar, and they dwelt there.
2And it came to pass, as they journeyed from the east, that they found a plain in the land of Shinar; and they dwelt there.
3And a man said to his neighbour, Come, let us make bricks and bake them with fire. And the brick was to them for stone, and their mortar was bitumen.
3And they said one to another, Go to, let us make brick, and burn them throughly. And they had brick for stone, and slime had they for morter.
4And they said, Come, let us build to ourselves a city and tower, whose top shall be to heaven, and let us make to ourselves a name, before we are scattered abroad upon the face of all the earth.
4And they said, Go to, let us build us a city and a tower, whose top may reach unto heaven; and let us make us a name, lest we be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth.
5And the Lord came down to see the city and the tower, which the sons of men built.

6And the Lord said, Behold, [there is] one race, and one lip of all, and they have begun to do this, and now nothing shall fail from them of all that they may have undertaken to do.

7Come, and having gone down let us there confound their tongue, that they may not understand each the voice of his neighbour.

8And the Lord scattered them thence over the face of all the earth, and they left off building the city and the tower.
8So the Lord scattered them abroad from thence upon the face of all the earth: and they left off to build the city.
9On this account its name was called Confusion, because there the Lord confounded the languages of all the earth, and thence the Lord scattered them upon the face of all the earth.
9Therefore is the name of it called Babel; because the Lord did there confound the language of all the earth: and from thence did the Lord scatter them abroad upon the face of all the earth.
10And these [are] the generations of Sem: and Sem was a hundred years old when he begot Arphaxad, the second year after the flood.

11And Sem lived, after he had begotten Arphaxad, five hundred years, and begot sons and daughters, and died.

29And Abram and Nachor took to themselves wives, the name of the wife of Abramwas Sara, and the name of the wife of Nachor, Malcha, daughter of Arrhan, and he was the father of Malcha, the father of Jescha.
29And Abram and Nahor took them wives: the name of Abram’s wife was Sarai; and the name of Nahor’s wife, Milcah, the daughter of Haran, the father of Milcah, and the father of Iscah.
30And Sara was barren, and did not bear children.
30But Sarai was barren; she had no child.
31And Tharrha took Abram his son, and Lot the son of Arrhan, the son of his son, and Sara his daughter -in -law, the wife of Abram his son, and led them forth out of the land of the Chaldees, to go into the land of Chanaan, and they came as far as Charrhan, and he dwelt there.
31And Terah took Abram his son, and Lot the son of Haran his son’s son, and Sarai his daughter in law, his son Abram’s wife; and they went forth with them from Ur of the Chaldees, to go into the land of Canaan; and they came unto Haran, and dwelt there.
32And all the days of Tharrha in the land of Charrhan were two hundred and five years, and Tharrha died in Charrhan.
32And the days of Terah were two hundred and five years: and Terah died in Haran.
1And the Lord said to Abram, Go forth out of thy land and out of thy kindred, and out of the house of thy father, and come into the land which I shall shew thee.
1Now the Lord had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father’s house, unto a land that I will shew thee:
2And I will make thee a great nation, and I will bless theeand magnify thy name, and thou shalt be blessed.
2And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing:
3And I will bless those that bless thee, and curse those that curse thee, and in thee shall all the tribes of the earth be blessed.
3And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed.
4And Abram went as the Lord spoke to him, and Lot departed with him, and Abram was seventy-five years old, when he went out of Charrhan.
4So Abram departed, as the Lord had spoken unto him; and Lot went with him: and Abram was seventy and five years old when he departed out of Haran.
5And Abram took Sara his wife, and Lot the son of his brother, and all their possessions, as many as they had got, and every soul which they had got in Charrhan, and they went forth to go into the land of Chanaan.
5And Abram took Sarai his wife, and Lot his brother’s son, and all their substance that they had gathered, and the souls that they had gotten in Haran; and they went forth to go into the land of Canaan; and into the land of Canaan they came.
6And Abram traversed the land lengthwise as far as the place Sychem, to the high oak, and the Chananites then inhabited the land.
6And Abram passed through the land unto the place of Sichem, unto the plain of Moreh. And the Canaanite was then in the land.
7And the Lord appeared to Abram, and said to him, I will give this land to thy seed. And Abram built an altar there to the Lord, who appeared to him.
7And the Lord appeared unto Abram, and said, Unto thy seed will I give this land: and there builded he an altar unto the Lord, who appeared unto him.
8And he departed thence to the mountain eastward of Bæthel, and there he pitched his tent in Bæthel near the sea, and Aggai toward the east, and there he built an altar to the Lord, and called on the name of the Lord.
8And he removed from thence unto a mountain on the east of Beth–el, and pitched his tent, having Beth–el on the west, and Hai on the east: and there he builded an altar unto the Lord, and called upon the name of the Lord.
9And Abram departed and went and encamped in the wilderness.
9And Abram journeyed, going on still toward the south.
10And there was a famine in the land, and Abram went down to Egypt to sojourn there, because the famine prevailed in the land.
10And there was a famine in the land: and Abram went down into Egypt to sojourn there; for the famine was grievous in the land.
11And it came to passwhen Abram drew nigh to enter into Egypt, Abram said to Sara his wife, I know that thou art a fair woman.
11And it came to pass, when he was come near to enter into Egypt, that he said unto Sarai his wife, Behold now, I know that thou art a fair woman to look upon:
12It shall come to pass then that when the Egyptians shall see thee, they shall say, This is his wife, and they shall slay me, but they shall save thee alive.
12Therefore it shall come to pass, when the Egyptians shall see thee, that they shall say, This is his wife: and they will kill me, but they will save thee alive.
13Say, therefore, I am his sister, that it may be well with me on account of thee, and my soul shall live because of thee.
13Say, I pray thee, thou art my sister: that it may be well with me for thy sake; and my soul shall live because of thee.
14And it came to passwhen Abram entered into Egypt—the Egyptians having seen his wife that she was very beautiful—
14And it came to pass, that, when Abram was come into Egypt, the Egyptians beheld the woman that she was very fair.
15that the princes of Pharao saw her, and praised her to Pharao and brought her into the house of Pharao.
15The princes also of Pharaoh saw her, and commended her before Pharaoh: and the woman was taken into Pharaoh’s house.
16And they treated Abram well on her account, and he had sheep, and calves, and asses, and men-servants, and women-servants, and mules, and camels.
16And he entreated Abram well for her sake: and he had sheep, and oxen, and he asses, and menservants, and maidservants, and she asses, and camels.
17And God afflicted Pharao with great and severe afflictions, and his house, because of Sara, Abram's wife.
17And the Lord plagued Pharaoh and his house with great plagues because of Sarai Abram’s wife.
18And Pharao having called Abram, said, What is this thou hast done to me, that thou didst not tell me that she was thy wife?
18And Pharaoh called Abram, and said, What is this that thou hast done unto me? why didst thou not tell me that she was thy wife?
19Wherefore didst thou say, She is my sister? and I took her for a wife to myself; and now, behold, thy wife is before thee, take herand go quickly away.
19Why saidst thou, She is my sister? so I might have taken her to me to wife: now therefore behold thy wife, take her, and go thy way.
20And Pharao gave charge to men concerning Abram, to join in sending him forward, and his wife, and all that he had.
20And Pharaoh commanded his men concerning him: and they sent him away, and his wife, and all that he had.
