1And Roboam came to Jerusalem; and he assembled Juda and Benjamin, a hundred and eighty thousand young men fit for war, and he waged war with Israel to recover the kingdom to Roboam.
1And when Rehoboam was come to Jerusalem, he gathered of the house of Judah and Benjamin an hundred and fourscore thousand chosen men, which were warriors, to fight against Israel, that he might bring the kingdom again to Rehoboam.
2And the word of the Lord came to Samaias the man of God, saying,
2But the word of the Lord came to Shemaiah the man of God, saying,
3Speak to Roboam the [son] of Solomon, and to all Juda and Benjamin, saying,
3Speak unto Rehoboam the son of Solomon, king of Judah, and to all Israel in Judah and Benjamin, saying,
4Thus saith the Lord, Ye shall not go up, and ye shall not war against your brethren: return every one to his home; for this thing is of me. And they hearkened to the word of the Lord, and returned from going against Jeroboam.
4Thus saith the Lord, Ye shall not go up, nor fight against your brethren: return every man to his house: for this thing is done of me. And they obeyed the words of the Lord, and returned from going against Jeroboam.
5And Roboam dwelt in Jerusalem, and he built walled cities in Judæa.
5And Rehoboam dwelt in Jerusalem, and built cities for defence in Judah.
6And he built Bethleem, and Ætan and Thecoe,
6He built even Beth–lehem, and Etam, and Tekoa,
7and Bæthsura, and Sochoth, and Odollam,
7And Beth–zur, and Shoco, and Adullam,
8and Geth, and Marisa, and Ziph,
8And Gath, and Mareshah, and Ziph,
9and Adorai, and Lachis, and Azeca,
9And Adoraim, and Lachish, and Azekah,
10and Saraa, and Ælom, and Chebron, which belongs to Juda and Benjamin, walled cities.
10And Zorah, and Aijalon, and Hebron, which are in Judah and in Benjamin fenced cities.
11And he fortified them with walls, and placed in them captains, and stores of provisions, oil and wine,
11And he fortified the strong holds, and put captains in them, and store of victual, and of oil and wine.
12shields and spears in every several city , and he fortified them very strongly, and he had on his side Juda and Benjamin.
12And in every several city he put shields and spears, and made them exceeding strong, having Judah and Benjamin on his side.
13And the priests and the Levites who were in all Israel were gathered to him out of all the coasts.
13And the priests and the Levites that were in all Israel resorted to him out of all their coasts.
14For the Levites left the tents of their possession, and went to Juda to Jerusalem, because Jeroboam and his sons had ejected them so that they should not minister to the Lord.
14For the Levites left their suburbs and their possession, and came to Judah and Jerusalem: for Jeroboam and his sons had cast them off from executing the priest’s office unto the Lord:
15And he made for himself priests of the high places, and for the idols, and for the vanities, and for the calves which Jeroboam made.
15And he ordained him priests for the high places, and for the devils, and for the calves which he had made.
16And he cast out from the tribes of Israel those who set their heart to seek the Lord God of Israel: and they came to Jerusalem, to sacrifice to the Lord God of their fathers.
16And after them out of all the tribes of Israel such as set their hearts to seek the Lord God of Israel came to Jerusalem, to sacrifice unto the Lord God of their fathers.
17And they strengthened the kingdom of Juda; and [Juda] strengthened Roboam the [son] of Solomon for three years, for he walked three years in the ways of David and Solomon.
17So they strengthened the kingdom of Judah, and made Rehoboam the son of Solomon strong, three years: for three years they walked in the way of David and Solomon.
18And Roboam took to himself for a wife Moolath daughter of Jerimuth the son of David , and Abigaia daughter of Heliab the son of Jessæ.
18And Rehoboam took him Mahalath the daughter of Jerimoth the son of David to wife, and Abihail the daughter of Eliab the son of Jesse;
19And she bore him sons; Jeus, and Samoria, and Zaam.
19Which bare him children; Jeush, and Shamariah, and Zaham.
20And afterwards he took to himself Maacha the daughter of Abessalom; and she bore him Abia, and Jetthi, and Zeza, and Salemoth.
20And after her he took Maachah the daughter of Absalom; which bare him Abijah, and Attai, and Ziza, and Shelomith.
21And Roboam loved Maacha the daughter of Abessalom more than all his wives and all his concubines: for he had eighteen wivesand sixty concubines; and he begot twenty-eight sons, and sixty daughters.
21And Rehoboam loved Maachah the daughter of Absalom above all his wives and his concubines: (for he took eighteen wives, and threescore concubines; and begat twenty and eight sons, and threescore daughters.)
22And he made Abia the son of Maacha chief, [even] a leader among his brethren, for he intended to make him king.
22And Rehoboam made Abijah the son of Maachah the chief, to be ruler among his brethren: for he thought to make him king.
23And he was exalted beyond all his [other] sons in all the coasts of Juda and Benjamin, and in the strong cities; and he gave them provisions in great abundance: and he desired many wives.
23And he dealt wisely, and dispersed of all his children throughout all the countries of Judah and Benjamin, unto every fenced city: and he gave them victual in abundance. And he desired many wives.
1And it came to passwhen the kingdom of Roboam was established, and when he had grown strong, [that] he forsook the commandments of the Lord, and all Israel with him.
1And it came to pass, when Rehoboam had established the kingdom, and had strengthened himself, he forsook the law of the Lord, and all Israel with him.
2And it came to passin the fifth year of the reign of Roboam, Susakim king of Egypt came up against Jerusalem, because they had sinned against the Lord,
2And it came to pass, that in the fifth year of king Rehoboam Shishak king of Egypt came up against Jerusalem, because they had transgressed against the Lord,
3with twelve hundred chariots, and sixty thousand horse: and there was no number of the multitude that came with him from Egypt; Libyans, Trogodytes, and Ethiopians.
3With twelve hundred chariots, and threescore thousand horsemen: and the people were without number that came with him out of Egypt; the Lubims, the Sukkiims, and the Ethiopians.
4And they obtained possession of the strong cities, which were in Juda, and came to Jerusalem.
4And he took the fenced cities which pertained to Judah, and came to Jerusalem.
5And Samaias the prophet came to Roboam, and to the princes of Juda that were gathered to Jerusalem for fear of Susakim, and said to them, Thus said the Lord, Ye have left me, and I will leave you in the hand of Susakim.
5Then came Shemaiah the prophet to Rehoboam, and to the princes of Judah, that were gathered together to Jerusalem because of Shishak, and said unto them, Thus saith the Lord, Ye have forsaken me, and therefore have I also left you in the hand of Shishak.
6And the elders of Israel and the king were ashamed, and said, The Lord [is] righteous.
6Whereupon the princes of Israel and the king humbled themselves; and they said, The Lord is righteous.
7And when the Lord saw that they repented, then came the word of the Lord to Samaias, saying, They have repented; I will not destroy them, but I will set them in safety for a little while, and my wrath shall not be poured out on Jerusalem .
7And when the Lord saw that they humbled themselves, the word of the Lord came to Shemaiah, saying, They have humbled themselves; therefore I will not destroy them, but I will grant them some deliverance; and my wrath shall not be poured out upon Jerusalem by the hand of Shishak.
8Nevertheless they shall be servants, and know my service, and the service of the kings of the earth.
8Nevertheless they shall be his servants; that they may know my service, and the service of the kingdoms of the countries.
9So Susakim king of Egypt went up against Jerusalem, and took the treasures that were in the house of the Lord, and the treasures that were in the king's house: he took all; and he took the golden shields which Solomon had made.
9So Shishak king of Egypt came up against Jerusalem, and took away the treasures of the house of the Lord, and the treasures of the kings house; he took all: he carried away also the shields of gold which Solomon had made.
10And king Roboam made brazen shields instead of them. And Susakim set over him captains of footmen, as keepers of the gate of the king.
10Instead of which king Rehoboam made shields of brass, and committed them to the hands of the chief of the guard, that kept the entrance of the king’s house.
11And it came to pass, when the king went into the house of the Lord, the guards and the footmen went in, and they that returned to meet the footmen.
11And when the king entered into the house of the Lord, the guard came and fetched them, and brought them again into the guard chamber.
12And when he repented, the anger of the Lord turned from him, and did not destroy him utterly; for there were good things in Juda.
12And when he humbled himself, the wrath of the Lord turned from him, that he would not destroy him altogether: and also in Judah things went well.
13So king Roboam strengthened [himself] in Jerusalem, and reigned: and Roboam was forty and one years old when he began to reign, and he reigned seventeen years in Jerusalem, in the city which the Lord chose out of all the tribes of the children of Israelto call his name there: and his mother's name was Noomma the Ammanitess.
13So king Rehoboam strengthened himself in Jerusalem, and reigned: for Rehoboam was one and forty years old when he began to reign, and he reigned seventeen years in Jerusalem, the city which the Lord had chosen out of all the tribes of Israel, to put his name there. And his mothers name was Naamah an Ammonitess.
14And he did evil, for he directed not his heart to seek the Lord.
14And he did evil, because he prepared not his heart to seek the Lord.
15And the acts of Roboam, the first and the last, behold, are they not written in the book of Samaia the prophet, and Addo the seer, with his achievements.
15Now the acts of Rehoboam, first and last, are they not written in the book of Shemaiah the prophet, and of Iddo the seer concerning genealogies? And there were wars between Rehoboam and Jeroboam continually.
16And Roboam made war with Jeroboam all [his] days. And Roboam died with his fathers, and was buried in the city of David: and Abia his son reigned in his stead.
16And Rehoboam slept with his fathers, and was buried in the city of David: and Abijah his son reigned in his stead.
