1In the twelfth year, in the tenth month, on the first [day] of the month, the word of the Lord came to me, saying,
1In the tenth year, in the tenth month, on the twelfth day of the month, Yahweh’s word came to me, saying,
2Son of man, set thy face against Pharao king of Egypt, and prophesy against him, and against the whole of Egypt:
2Son of man, set your face against Pharaoh king of Egypt, and prophesy against him and against all Egypt.
3and say, Thus saith the Lord; Behold, I am against Pharao, the great dragon that lies in the midst of his rivers, that says, The rivers are mine, and I made them.
3Speak and say, ‘The Lord Yahweh says: “Behold, I am against you, Pharaoh king of Egypt, the great monster that lies in the middle of his rivers, that has said, ‘My river is my own, and I have made it for myself.
4And I will put hooks in thy jaws, and I will cause the fish of thy river to stick to thy sides, and I will bring thee up out of the midst of thy river:
4I will put hooks in your jaws, and I will make the fish of your rivers stick to your scales. I will bring you up out of the middle of your rivers, with all the fish of your rivers which stick to your scales.
5and I will quickly cast down thee and all the fish of thy river: thou shalt fall on the face of the plain, and shalt by no means be gathered, and shalt not be brought together: I have given thee for food to the wild beasts of the earth and to the fowls of the sky.
5I’ll cast you out into the wilderness, you and all the fish of your rivers. You’ll fall on the open field. You won’t be brought together or gathered. I have given you for food to the animals of the earth and to the birds of the sky.
6And all the dwellers in Egypt shall know that I am the Lord, because thou hast been a staff of reed to the house of Israel.
6“‘“All the inhabitants of Egypt will know that I am Yahweh, because they have been a staff of reed to the house of Israel.
7When they took hold of thee with their hand, thou didst break: and when every hand was clapped against them, and when they leaned on thee, thou wast utterly broken, and didst crush the loins of them all .
7When they took hold of you by your hand, you broke and tore all their shoulders. When they leaned on you, you broke and paralyzed all of their thighs.
8Therefore thus saith the Lord; Behold, I [will] bring a sword upon thee, and will cut off from thee man and beast;
8“‘Therefore the Lord Yahweh says: “Behold, I will bring a sword on you, and will cut off man and animal from you.
9and the land of Egypt shall be ruined and desert; and they shall know that I am the Lord; because thou sayest, The rivers are mine, and I made them.
9The land of Egypt will be a desolation and a waste. Then they will know that I am Yahweh. “‘“Because he has said, The river is mine, and I have made it,’
10Therefore, behold, I am against thee, and against all thy rivers, and I will give up the land of Egypt to desolation, and the sword, and destruction, from Magdol and Syene even to the borders of the Ethiopians.
10therefore, behold, I am against you and against your rivers. I will make the land of Egypt an utter waste and desolation, from the tower of Seveneh even to the border of Ethiopia.
11No foot of man shall pass through it, and no foot of beast shall pass through it, and it shall not be inhabited for forty years.
11No foot of man will pass through it, nor will any animal foot pass through it. It won’t be inhabited for forty years.
12And I will cause her land to be utterly destroyed in the midst of a land that is desolate, and her cities shall be [desolate] forty years in the midst of cities that are desolate: and I will disperse Egypt among the nations, and will utterly scatter them into the countries.
12I will make the land of Egypt a desolation in the middle of the countries that are desolate. Her cities among the cities that are laid waste will be a desolation forty years. I will scatter the Egyptians among the nations, and will disperse them through the countries.
13Thus saith the Lord; After forty years I will gather the Egyptians from the nations among whom they have been scattered;
13“‘For the Lord Yahweh says: “At the end of forty years I will gather the Egyptians from the peoples where they were scattered.
14and I will turn the captivity of the Egyptians, and will cause them to dwell in the land of Phathore, in the land whence they were taken;
14I will reverse the captivity of Egypt, and will cause them to return into the land of Pathros, into the land of their birth. There they will be a lowly kingdom.
15and it shall be a base kingdom beyond all [other] kingdoms; it shall not any more be exalted over the nations; and I will make them few in number, that they may not be [great] among the nations.
15It will be the lowest of the kingdoms. It won’t lift itself up above the nations any more. I will diminish them so that they will no longer rule over the nations.
16And they shall no more be to the house of Israel a confidence bringing iniquity to remembrance, when they follow after them; and they shall know that I am the Lord .
16It will no longer be the confidence of the house of Israel, bringing iniquity to memory, when they turn to look after them. Then they will know that I am the Lord Yahweh.”’”
17And it came to pass in the twenty-seventh year, on the first [day] of the first month, the word of the Lord came to me, saying,
17It came to pass in the twenty-seventh year, in the first month, in the first day of the month, Yahweh’s word came to me, saying,
18Son of man, Nabuchodonosor king of Babylon caused his army to serve a great service against Tyre; every head was bald, and every shoulder peeled; yet there was no reward to him or to his army [serving] against Tyre, nor for the service wherewith they served against it.
18Son of man, Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon caused his army to serve a great service against Tyre. Every head was made bald, and every shoulder was worn; yet he had no wages, nor did his army, from Tyre, for the service that he had served against it.
19Thus saith the Lord God; Behold, I [will] give to Nabuchodonosor king of Babylon the land of Egypt , and he shall take the plunder thereof, and seize the spoils thereof; and [it] shall be a reward for his army.
19Therefore the Lord Yahweh says: ‘Behold, I will give the land of Egypt to Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon. He will carry off her multitude, take her plunder, and take her prey. That will be the wages for his army.
20In return for his service wherewith he served against Tyre, I have given him the land of Egypt; thus saith the Lord God:
20I have given him the land of Egypt as his payment for which he served, because they worked for me,’ says the Lord Yahweh.
21In that day shall a horn spring forth for all the house of Israel, and I will give thee an open mouth in the midst of them; and they shall know that I am the Lord.
21In that day I will cause a horn to sprout for the house of Israel, and I will open your mouth among them. Then they will know that I am Yahweh.
1And the word of the Lord came to me, saying,
1Yahweh’s word came again to me, saying,
2Son of man, prophesy, and say, Thus saith the Lord; Woe, woe [worth] the day!
2Son of man, prophesy, and say, ‘The Lord Yahweh says: “Wail, ‘Alas for the day!
3For the day of the Lord is nigh, a day of cloud; it shall be the end of the nations.
3For the day is near, even Yahweh’s day is near. It will be a day of clouds, a time of the nations.
4And a sword shall come upon the Egyptians, and there shall be tumult in Ethiopia, and in Egypt [men] shall fall down slain together, and her foundations shall fall.
4A sword will come on Egypt, and anguish will be in Ethiopia, when the slain fall in Egypt. They take away her multitude, and her foundations are broken down.
5Persians, and Cretans, and Lydians, and Libyans, and all the mixed multitude, and they of the children of my covenant, shall fall by the sword therein.
5“‘“Ethiopia, Put, Lud, all the mixed people, Cub, and the children of the land that is allied with them, will fall with them by the sword.
6And the supports of Egypt shall fall; and the pride of her strength shall come down from Magdol to Syene: they shall fall by the sword in it , saith the Lord .
6“‘Yahweh says: “They also who uphold Egypt will fall. The pride of her power will come down. They will fall by the sword in it from the tower of Seveneh,” says the Lord Yahweh.
7And it shall be made desolate in the midst of desolate countries, and their cities shall be [desolate] in the midst of the desolate cities:
7“They will be desolate in the middle of the countries that are desolate. Her cities will be among the cities that are wasted.
8and they shall know that I am the Lord, when I shall send fire upon Egypt, and [when] all that help her shall be broken.
8They will know that I am Yahweh when I have set a fire in Egypt, and all her helpers are destroyed.
9In that day shall messengers go forth hasting to destroy Ethiopia utterly, and there shall be tumult among themin the day of Egypt: for, behold, it comes.
9“‘“In that day messengers will go out from before me in ships to make the careless Ethiopians afraid. There will be anguish on them, as in the day of Egypt; for, behold, it comes.
10Thus saith the Lord God; I will also destroy the multitude of the Egyptians by the hand of Nabuchodonosor king of Babylon,
10“‘The Lord Yahweh says: “I will also make the multitude of Egypt to cease, by the hand of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon.
11his [hand] and his people's; [they are] plagues sent forth from the nationsto destroy the land: and they all shall unsheath their swords against Egypt, and the land shall be filled with slain.
11He and his people with him, the terrible of the nations, will be brought in to destroy the land. They will draw their swords against Egypt, and fill the land with the slain.
12And I will make their rivers desolate, and will destroy the land and the fulness of it by the hands of strangers: I the Lord have spoken .
12I will make the rivers dry, and will sell the land into the hand of evil men. I will make the land desolate, and all that is therein, by the hand of foreigners. I, Yahweh, have spoken it.
13For thus saith the Lord God; I will also destroy the nobles from Memphis, and the princes of Memphis out of the land of Egypt; and they shall be no more.
13“‘The Lord Yahweh says: “I will also destroy the idols, and I will cause the images to cease from Memphis. There will be no more a prince from the land of Egypt. I will put a fear in the land of Egypt.
14And I will destroy the land of Phathore, and will send fire upon Tanis, and will execute vengeance on Diospolis.
14I will make Pathros desolate, and will set a fire in Zoan, and will execute judgments on No.
15And I will pour out my wrath upon Sais the strength of Egypt, and will destroy the multitude of Memphis.
15I will pour my wrath on Sin, the stronghold of Egypt. I will cut off the multitude of No.
16And I will send fire upon Egypt; and Syene shall be sorely troubled; and there shall be a breaking in Diospolis, and waters shall be poured out.
16I will set a fire in Egypt Sin will be in great anguish. No will be broken up. Memphis will have adversaries in the daytime.
17The youths of Heliopolis and Bubastum shall fall by the sword, and the women shall go into captivity.
17The young men of Aven and of Pibeseth will fall by the sword. They will go into captivity.
18And the day shall be darkened in Taphnæ, when I have broken there the sceptres of Egypt: and the pride of her strength shall perish there: and a cloud shall cover her, and her daughters shall be taken prisoners.
18At Tehaphnehes also the day will withdraw itself, when I break the yokes of Egypt there. The pride of her power will cease in her. As for her, a cloud will cover her, and her daughters will go into captivity.
19And I will execute judgment on Egypt; and they shall know that I am the Lord.
19Thus I will execute judgments on Egypt. Then they will know that I am Yahweh.”’”
20And it came to pass in the eleventh year, in the first month, on the seventh [day] of the month, the word of the Lord came to me, saying,
20In the eleventh year, in the first month, in the seventh day of the month, Yahweh’s word came to me, saying,
21Son of man, I have broken the arms of Pharao, king of Egypt; and, behold, it has not been bound upto be healed, to have a plaster put upon it, [or] to be strengthened to lay hold of the sword.
21Son of man, I have broken the arm of Pharaoh king of Egypt. Behold, it has not been bound up, to apply medicines, to put a bandage to bind it, that it may become strong to hold the sword.
22Therefore thus saith the Lord God; Behold, I am against Pharao king of Egypt, and I will break his strong and outstretched arms, and will smite down his sword out of his hand.
22Therefore the Lord Yahweh says: ‘Behold, I am against Pharaoh king of Egypt, and will break his arms, the strong arm, and that which was broken. I will cause the sword to fall out of his hand.
23And I will disperse the Egyptians among the nations, and will utterly scatter them among the countries.
23I will scatter the Egyptians among the nations, and will disperse them through the countries.
24And I will strengthen the arms of the king of Babylon, and put my sword into his hand: and he shall bring it upon Egypt, and shall take her plunder and seize her spoils.
24I will strengthen the arms of the king of Babylon, and put my sword in his hand; but I will break the arms of Pharaoh, and he will groan before the king of Babylon with the groaning of a mortally wounded man.
25Yea, I will strengthen the arms of the king of Babylon, and the arms of Pharao shall fail: and they shall know that I am the Lord, when I have put my sword into the hands of the king of Babylon, and he shall stretch it out over the land of Egypt.
25I will hold up the arms of the king of Babylon, but the arms of Pharaoh will fall down. Then they will know that I am Yahweh when I put my sword into the hand of the king of Babylon, and he stretches it out on the land of Egypt.
26And I will disperse the Egyptians among the nations, and utterly scatter them among the countries; and they all shall know that I am the Lord.
26I will scatter the Egyptians among the nations and disperse them through the countries. Then they will know that I am Yahweh.’”
