1And the Lord said to Moses, Go in to Pharao, and thou shalt say to him, These things saith the Lord God of the Hebrews; Send my people away that they may serve me.
1Then Yahweh said to Moses, Go in to Pharaoh, and tell him, ‘This is what Yahweh, the God of the Hebrews, says: “Let my people go, that they may serve me.
2If however thou wilt not send my people away, but yet detainest them:
2For if you refuse to let them go, and hold them still,
3behold, the hand of the Lord shall be upon thy cattle in the fields, both on the horses, and on the asses, and on the camels and oxen and sheep, a very great mortality.
3behold, Yahweh’s hand is on your livestock which are in the field, on the horses, on the donkeys, on the camels, on the herds, and on the flocks with a very grievous pestilence.
4And I will make a marvellous distinction in that time between the cattle of the Egyptians, and the cattle of the children of Israel: nothing shall die of all that is of the children's of Israel.
4Yahweh will make a distinction between the livestock of Israel and the livestock of Egypt; and nothing shall die of all that belongs to the children of Israel.”’”
5And God fixed a limit, saying, To-morrow the Lord will do this thing on the land.
5Yahweh appointed a set time, saying, “Tomorrow Yahweh shall do this thing in the land.
6And the Lord did this thing on the next day, and all the cattle of the Egyptians died, but of the cattle of the children of Israel there died not one .
6Yahweh did that thing on the next day; and all the livestock of Egypt died, but of the livestock of the children of Israel, not one died.
7And when Pharao saw, that of all the cattle of the children of Israel there died not one, the heart of Pharao was hardened, and he did not let the people go.
7Pharaoh sent, and, behold, there was not so much as one of the livestock of the Israelites dead. But the heart of Pharaoh was stubborn, and he didn’t let the people go.
8And the Lord spoke to Moses and Aaron, saying, Take you handfuls of ashes of the furnace, and let Moses scatter it toward heaven before Pharao, and before his servants.
8Yahweh said to Moses and to Aaron, Take handfuls of ashes of the furnace, and let Moses sprinkle it toward the sky in the sight of Pharaoh.
9And let it become dust over all the land of Egypt, and there shall be upon men and upon beasts sore blains breaking forth both on men and on beasts, in all the land of Egypt.
9It shall become small dust over all the land of Egypt, and shall be boils and blisters breaking out on man and on animal, throughout all the land of Egypt.
10So he took of the ashes of the furnace before Pharao, and Moses scattered it toward heaven, and it became sore blains breaking forth both on men and on beasts.
10They took ashes of the furnace, and stood before Pharaoh; and Moses sprinkled it up toward the sky; and it became boils and blisters breaking out on man and on animal.
11And the sorcerers could not stand before Moses because of the sores, for the sores were on the sorcerers, and in all the land of Egypt.
11The magicians couldn’t stand before Moses because of the boils; for the boils were on the magicians and on all the Egyptians.
12And the Lord hardened Pharao's heart , and he hearkened not to them, as the Lord appointed.
12Yahweh hardened the heart of Pharaoh, and he didn’t listen to them, as Yahweh had spoken to Moses.
13And the Lord said to Moses, Rise up early in the morning, and stand before Pharao; and thou shalt say to him, These things saith the Lord God of the Hebrews, Send away my people that they may serve me.
13Yahweh said to Moses, Rise up early in the morning, and stand before Pharaoh, and tell him, ‘This is what Yahweh, the God of the Hebrews, says: “Let my people go, that they may serve me.
14For at this present time do I send forth all my plagues into thine heart, and the heart of thy servants and of thy people; that thou mayest know that there is not another such as I in all the earth.
14For this time I will send all my plagues against your heart, against your officials, and against your people; that you may know that there is no one like me in all the earth.
15For now I will stretch forth my handand smite thee and kill thy people , and thou shalt be consumed from off the earth.
15For now I would have stretched out my hand, and struck you and your people with pestilence, and you would have been cut off from the earth;
16And for this purpose hast thou been preserved, that I might display in thee my strength, and that my name might be published in all the earth.
16but indeed for this cause I have made you stand: to show you my power, and that my name may be declared throughout all the earth,
17Dost thou then yet exert thyself to hinder my people, so as not to let them go?
17because you still exalt yourself against my people, that you won’t let them go.
18Behold, to-morrow at this hour I will rain a very great hail, such as has not been in Egypt, from the time it was created until this day.
18Behold, tomorrow about this time I will cause it to rain a very grievous hail, such as has not been in Egypt since the day it was founded even until now.
19Now then hasten to gather thy cattle, and all that thou hast in the fields; for all the men and cattle as many as shall be found in the fields, and shall not enter into a house, (but the hail shall fall upon them,) shall die.
19Now therefore command that all of your livestock and all that you have in the field be brought into shelter. The hail will come down on every man and animal that is found in the field, and isn’t brought home, and they will die.”’”
20He of the servants of Pharao that feared the word of the Lord, gathered his cattle into the houses.
20Those who feared Yahweh’s word among the servants of Pharaoh made their servants and their livestock flee into the houses.
21And he that did not attend in his mind to the word of the Lord, left the cattle in the fields.
21Whoever didn’t respect Yahweh’s word left his servants and his livestock in the field.
22And the Lord said to Moses, Stretch out thine hand to heaven, and there shall be hail on all the land of Egypt, both on the men and on the cattle, and on all the herbage on the land .
22Yahweh said to Moses, Stretch out your hand toward the sky, that there may be hail in all the land of Egypt, on man, and on animal, and on every herb of the field, throughout the land of Egypt.
23And Moses stretched forth his hand to heaven, and the Lord sent thunderings and hail; and the fire ran along upon the ground, and the Lord rained hail on all the land of Egypt.
23Moses stretched out his rod toward the heavens, and Yahweh sent thunder and hail; and lightning flashed down to the earth. Yahweh rained hail on the land of Egypt.
24So there was hailand flaming fire mingled with hail; and the hail was very great, such as was not in Egypt, from the time there was a nation upon it.
24So there was very severe hail, and lightning mixed with the hail, such as had not been in all the land of Egypt since it became a nation.
25And the hail smote in all the land of Egypt both man and beast, and the hail smote all the grass in the field, and the hail broke in pieces all the trees in the field.
25The hail struck throughout all the land of Egypt all that was in the field, both man and animal; and the hail struck every herb of the field, and broke every tree of the field.
26Only in the land of Gesem where the children of Israel were, the hail was not.
26Only in the land of Goshen, where the children of Israel were, there was no hail.
27And Pharao sent and called Moses and Aaron, and said to them, I have sinned this time: the Lord [is] righteous, and I and my people are wicked.
27Pharaoh sent and called for Moses and Aaron, and said to them, I have sinned this time. Yahweh is righteous, and I and my people are wicked.
28Pray then for me to the Lord, and let him cause the thunderings of God to cease, and the hail and the fire, and I will send you forth and ye shall remain no longer.
28Pray to Yahweh; for there has been enough of mighty thunderings and hail. I will let you go, and you shall stay no longer.
29And Moses said to him, When I shall have departed from the city, I will stretch out my hands to the Lord, and the thunderings shall cease, and the hail and the rain shall be no longer, that thou mayest know that the earth [is] the Lord's.
29Moses said to him, “As soon as I have gone out of the city, I will spread out my hands to Yahweh. The thunders shall cease, and there will not be any more hail; that you may know that the earth is Yahweh’s.
30But as for thee and thy servants, I know that ye have not yet feared the Lord.
30But as for you and your servants, I know that you don’t yet fear Yahweh God.
31And the flax and the barley were smitten, for the barley was advanced, and the flax was seeding.
31The flax and the barley were struck, for the barley had ripened and the flax was blooming.
32But the wheat and the rye were not smitten, for they were late.
32But the wheat and the spelt were not struck, for they had not grown up.
33And Moses went forth from Pharao out of the city , and stretched out his hands to the Lord, and the thunders ceased and the hail , and the rain did not drop on the earth.
33Moses went out of the city from Pharaoh, and spread out his hands to Yahweh; and the thunders and hail ceased, and the rain was not poured on the earth.
34And when Pharao saw that the rain and the hail and the thunders ceased, he continued to sin; and [he] hardened his heart, and the heart of his servants.
34When Pharaoh saw that the rain and the hail and the thunders had ceased, he sinned yet more, and hardened his heart, he and his servants.
35And the heart of Pharao was hardened, and he did not send forth the children of Israel , as the Lord said to Moses.
35The heart of Pharaoh was hardened, and he didn’t let the children of Israel go, just as Yahweh had spoken through Moses.
1And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, Go in to Pharao: for I have hardened his heart and the heart of his servants, that these signs may come upon them; in order
1Yahweh said to Moses, Go in to Pharaoh, for I have hardened his heart and the heart of his servants, that I may show these my signs among them;
2that ye may relate in the ears of your children, and to your children's children, in how many things I have mocked the Egyptians, and my wonders which I wrought among them; and ye shall know that I [am] the Lord.
2and that you may tell in the hearing of your son, and of your son’s son, what things I have done to Egypt, and my signs which I have done among them; that you may know that I am Yahweh.
3And Moses and Aaron went in before Pharao, and they said to him, These things saith the Lord God of the Hebrews, How long dost thou refuse to reverence me? Send my people away, that they may serve me.
3Moses and Aaron went in to Pharaoh, and said to him, “This is what Yahweh, the God of the Hebrews, says: ‘How long will you refuse to humble yourself before me? Let my people go, that they may serve me.
4But if thou wilt not send my people away, behold, at this hour to-morrow I will bring an abundance of locusts upon all thy coasts.
4Or else, if you refuse to let my people go, behold, tomorrow I will bring locusts into your country,
5And they shall cover the face of the earth, and thou shalt not be able to see the earth; and they shall devour all that is left of the abundance of the earth, which the hail has left you, and shall devour every tree that grows for you on the land.
5and they shall cover the surface of the earth, so that one won’t be able to see the earth. They shall eat the residue of that which has escaped, which remains to you from the hail, and shall eat every tree which grows for you out of the field.
6And thy houses shall be filled, and the houses of thy servants, and all the houses in all the land of the Egyptians; things which thy fathers have never seen, nor their forefathers, from the day that they were upon the earth until this day. And Moses turned away and departed from Pharao.
6Your houses shall be filled, and the houses of all your servants, and the houses of all the Egyptians, as neither your fathers nor your fathers’ fathers have seen, since the day that they were on the earth to this day.’” He turned, and went out from Pharaoh.
7And the servants of Pharao say to him, How long shall this be a snare to us? send away the men , that they may serve their God; wilt thou know that Egypt is destroyed?
7Pharaoh’s servants said to him, How long will this man be a snare to us? Let the men go, that they may serve Yahweh, their God. Don’t you yet know that Egypt is destroyed?
8And they brought back both Moses and Aaron to Pharao; and he said to them, Go and serve the Lord your God; but who are they that are going with you?
8Moses and Aaron were brought again to Pharaoh, and he said to them, Go, serve Yahweh your God; but who are those who will go?
9And Moses said, We will go with the young and the old, with our sons, and daughters, and sheep, and oxen, for it is a feast of the Lord.
9Moses said, We will go with our young and with our old. We will go with our sons and with our daughters, with our flocks and with our herds; for we must hold a feast to Yahweh.
10And he said to them, So let the Lord be with you: as I [will] send you away, [must I send away] your store also? see that evil is attached to you.
10He said to them, “Yahweh be with you if I let you go with your little ones! See, evil is clearly before your faces.
11Not so, but let the men go and serve God, for this ye yourselves seek; and they cast them out from the presence of Pharao.
11Not so! Go now you who are men, and serve Yahweh; for that is what you desire!” Then they were driven out from Pharaoh’s presence.
12And the Lord said to Moses, Stretch out thine hand over the land of Egypt, and let the locust come up on the land , and it shall devour every herb of the land, and all the fruit of the trees, which the hail left.
12Yahweh said to Moses, Stretch out your hand over the land of Egypt for the locusts, that they may come up on the land of Egypt, and eat every herb of the land, even all that the hail has left.
13And Moses lifted up his rod towards heaven, and the Lord brought a south wind upon the earth, all that dayand all that night: the morning dawned, and the south wind brought up the locusts,
13Moses stretched out his rod over the land of Egypt, and Yahweh brought an east wind on the land all that day, and all night; and when it was morning, the east wind brought the locusts.
14and brought them up over all the land of Egypt. And they rested in very great abundance over all the borders of Egypt. Before them there were not such locusts , neither after them shall there be .
14The locusts went up over all the land of Egypt, and rested in all the borders of Egypt. They were very grievous. Before them there were no such locusts as they, nor will there ever be again.
15And they covered the face of the earth, and the land was wasted, and they devoured all the herbage of the land, and all the fruit of the trees, which was left by the hail: there was no green thing left on the trees, nor on all the herbage of the field, in all the land of Egypt.
15For they covered the surface of the whole earth, so that the land was darkened, and they ate every herb of the land, and all the fruit of the trees which the hail had left. There remained nothing green, either tree or herb of the field, through all the land of Egypt.
16And Pharao hasted to call Moses and Aaron , saying, I have sinned before the Lord your God, and against you;
16Then Pharaoh called for Moses and Aaron in haste, and he said, I have sinned against Yahweh your God, and against you.
17pardon therefore my sin yet this time, and pray to the Lord your God, and let him take away from me this death.
17Now therefore please forgive my sin again, and pray to Yahweh your God, that he may also take away from me this death.
18And Moses went forth from Pharao, and prayed to God.
18Moses went out from Pharaoh, and prayed to Yahweh.
19And the Lord brought in the opposite direction a strong wind from the sea, and took up the locustsand cast them into the Red Sea, and there was not one locust left in all the land of Egypt.
19Yahweh sent an exceedingly strong west wind, which took up the locusts, and drove them into the Red Sea. There remained not one locust in all the borders of Egypt.
20And the Lord hardened the heart of Pharao, and he did not send away the children of Israel .
20But Yahweh hardened Pharaoh’s heart, and he didn’t let the children of Israel go.
21And the Lord said to Moses, Stretch out thy hand to heaven, and let there be darkness over the land of Egyptdarkness that may be felt.
21Yahweh said to Moses, Stretch out your hand toward the sky, that there may be darkness over the land of Egypt, even darkness which may be felt.
22And Moses stretched out his hand to heaven, and there was darkness very black, even a storm over all the land of Egypt three days.
22Moses stretched out his hand toward the sky, and there was a thick darkness in all the land of Egypt for three days.
23And for three days no man saw his brother, and no man rose up from his bed for three days: but all the children of Israel had light in all the places where they were.
23They didn’t see one another, and nobody rose from his place for three days; but all the children of Israel had light in their dwellings.
24And Pharao called Mosesand Aaron, saying, Go, serve the Lord your God, only leave your sheep and your oxen, and let your store depart with you.
24Pharaoh called to Moses, and said, Go, serve Yahweh. Only let your flocks and your herds stay behind. Let your little ones also go with you.
25And Moses said, Nay, but thou shalt give to us whole burnt -offerings and sacrifices, which we will sacrifice to the Lord our God.
25Moses said, “You must also give into our hand sacrifices and burnt offerings, that we may sacrifice to Yahweh our God.
26And our cattle shall go with us, and we will not leave a hoof behind, for of them we will take to serve the Lord our God: but we know not in what manner we shall serve the Lord our God, until we arrive there.
26Our livestock also shall go with us. Not a hoof shall be left behind, for of it we must take to serve Yahweh our God; and we don’t know with what we must serve Yahweh, until we come there.
27But the Lord hardened the heart of Pharao, and he would not let them go.
27But Yahweh hardened Pharaoh’s heart, and he wouldn’t let them go.
28And Pharao says, Depart from me, beware of seeing my face again, for in what day thou shalt appear before me, thou shalt die.
28Pharaoh said to him, “Get away from me! Be careful to see my face no more; for in the day you see my face you shall die!”
29And Moses says, Thou hast said, I will not appear in thy presence again .
29Moses said, “You have spoken well. I will see your face again no more.
