1And the angel that talked with me returned, and awakened me, as when a man is awakened out of his sleep.
1The angel who talked with me came again and wakened me, as a man who is wakened out of his sleep.
2And he said to me, What seest thou? And I said, I have seen, and beholda candlestick all of gold, and its bowl upon it, and seven lamps upon it, and seven oil funnels to the lamps upon it:
2He said to me, “What do you see?” I said, “I have seen, and behold, a lamp stand all of gold, with its bowl on the top of it, and its seven lamps on it; there are seven pipes to each of the lamps which are on the top of it;
3and two olive -trees above it, one on the right of the bowl, and one on the left .
3and two olive trees by it, one on the right side of the bowl, and the other on the left side of it.”
4And I inquired, and spoke to the angel that talked with me, saying, What are these things, [my] lord?
4I answered and spoke to the angel who talked with me, saying, “What are these, my lord?”
5And the angel that talked with me answered, and spoke to me, saying, Knowest thou not what these things are? And I said, No, [my] lord.
5Then the angel who talked with me answered me, “Don’t you know what these are?” I said, “No, my lord.”
6And he answered and spoke to me, saying, This is the word of the Lord to Zorobabel, saying, Not by mighty power, nor by strength, but by my Spirit, saith the Lord Almighty.
6Then he answered and spoke to me, saying, “This is Yahweh’s word to Zerubbabel, saying, ‘Not by might, nor by power, but by my Spirit,’ says Yahweh of Armies.
7Who art thou, the great mountain before Zorobabel, that thou shouldest prosper? whereas I will bring out the stone of the inheritance, the grace of it the equal of [my ] grace.
7Who are you, great mountain? Before Zerubbabel you are a plain; and he will bring out the capstone with shouts of ‘Grace, grace, to it!’”
8And the word of the Lord came to me, saying,
8Moreover Yahweh’s word came to me, saying,
9The hands of Zorobabel have laid the foundation of this house, and his hands shall finish it: and thou shalt know that the Lord Almighty has sent me to thee.
9“The hands of Zerubbabel have laid the foundation of this house. His hands shall also finish it; and you will know that Yahweh of Armies has sent me to you.
10For who has despised the small days? surely they shall rejoice, and shall see the plummet of tin in the hand of Zorobabel: these are the seven eyes that look upon all the earth.
10Indeed, who despises the day of small things? For these seven shall rejoice, and shall see the plumb line in the hand of Zerubbabel. These are Yahweh’s eyes, which run back and forth through the whole earth.”
11And I answered, and said to him, What are these two olive -trees, which are on the right and left hand of the candlestick?
11Then I asked him, “What are these two olive trees on the right side of the lamp stand and on the left side of it?”
12And I asked the second time, and said to him, What are the two branches of the olive-trees that are by the side of the two golden pipes that pour into and communicate with the golden oil funnels?
12I asked him the second time, “What are these two olive branches, which are beside the two golden spouts that pour the golden oil out of themselves?”
13And he said to me, Knowest thou not what these are? and I said, No, [my] lord.
13He answered me, “Don’t you know what these are?” I said, “No, my lord.”
14And he said, These are the two anointed ones [that] stand by the Lord of the whole earth.
14Then he said, “These are the two anointed ones who stand by the Lord of the whole earth.”
1And I turned, and lifted up mine eyes , and looked and beholda flying sickle.
1Then again I lifted up my eyes and saw, and behold, a flying scroll.
2And he said to me, What seest thou? And I said, I see a flying sickle, of the length of twenty cubits, and of the breadth of ten cubits.
2He said to me, “What do you see?” I answered, “I see a flying scroll; its length is twenty cubits, and its width ten cubits.”
3And he said to me, This is the curse that goes forth over the face of the whole earth: for every thief shall be punished with death on this side, and every false swearer shall be punished on that side.
3Then he said to me, “This is the curse that goes out over the surface of the whole land, for everyone who steals shall be cut off according to it on the one side; and everyone who swears falsely shall be cut off according to it on the other side.
4And I will bring it forth, saith the Lord Almighty, and it shall enter into the house of the thief, and into the house of him that swears falsely by my name: and it shall rest in the midst of his house, and shall consume it, and the timber of it, and the stones of it.
4I will cause it to go out,” says Yahweh of Armies, “and it will enter into the house of the thief, and into the house of him who swears falsely by my name; and it will remain in the middle of his house, and will destroy it with its timber and its stones.”
5And the angel that talked with me went forth, and said to me, Lift up thine eyes, and see this that goes forth.
5Then the angel who talked with me came forward and said to me, “Lift up now your eyes and see what this is that is appearing.”
6And I said, What is it? And he said, This is the measure that goes forth. And he said , This is their iniquity in all the earth.
6I said, “What is it?” He said, “This is the ephah basket that is appearing.” He said moreover, “This is their appearance in all the land—
7And beholda talent of lead lifted up: and behold a woman sat in the midst of the measure.
7and behold, a lead cover weighing one talent was lifted up—and there was a woman sitting in the middle of the ephah basket.”
8And he said, This is iniquity. And he cast it into the midst of the measure, and cast the weight of lead on the mouth of it.
8He said, “This is Wickedness;” and he threw her down into the middle of the ephah basket; and he threw the lead weight on its mouth.
9And I lifted up mine eyes, and saw, and, behold, two women coming forth, and the wind was in their wings; and they had stork's wings: and they lifted up the measure between the earth and the sky.
9Then I lifted up my eyes and saw, and behold, there were two women; and the wind was in their wings. Now they had wings like the wings of a stork, and they lifted up the ephah basket between earth and the sky.
10And I said to the angel that spoke with me, Whither do these carry away the measure?
10Then I said to the angel who talked with me, “Where are these carrying the ephah basket?”
11And he said to me, To build it a house in the land of Babylon, and to prepare [a place for it]; and they shall set it there on its own base.
11He said to me, “To build her a house in the land of Shinar. When it is prepared, she will be set there in her own place.”
1And I turned, and lifted up mine eyes, and looked, and, behold, four chariots coming out from between two mountains; and the mountains were brazen mountains .
1Again I lifted up my eyes, and saw, and behold, four chariots came out from between two mountains; and the mountains were mountains of bronze.
2In the first chariot [were] red horses; and in the second chariot black horses;
2In the first chariot were red horses. In the second chariot were black horses.
3and in the third chariot white horses; and in the fourth chariot piebald [and] ash-coloured horses.
3In the third chariot were white horses. In the fourth chariot were dappled horses, all of them powerful.
4And I answered and said to the angel that talked with me, What are these, my lord?
4Then I asked the angel who talked with me, “What are these, my lord?”
5And the angel that talked with me answered and said, These are the four winds of heaven, [and] they are going forth to stand before the Lord of all the earth.
5The angel answered me, “These are the four winds of the sky, which go out from standing before the Lord of all the earth.
6[As for the chariot] in which were the black horses, they went out to the land of the north ; and the white went out after them; and the piebald went out to the land of the south .
6The one with the black horses goes out toward the north country; and the white went out after them; and the dappled went out toward the south country.”
7And the ash-coloured went out, and looked to go and compass the earth: and he said, Go, and compass the earth. And they compassed the earth.
7The strong went out, and sought to go that they might walk back and forth through the earth. He said, “Go around and through the earth!” So they walked back and forth through the earth.
8And he cried out and spoke to me, saying, Behold, these go out to the land of the north, and they have quieted mine anger in the land of the north .
8Then he called to me, and spoke to me, saying, “Behold, those who go toward the north country have quieted my spirit in the north country.”
9And the word of the Lord came to me, saying,
9Yahweh’s word came to me, saying,
10Take the things of the captivity from the chief men, and from the useful men of it, and from them that have understood it; and thou shalt enter in that dayinto the house of Josias the son of Sophonias that came out of Babylon.
10“Take of them of the captivity, even of Heldai, of Tobijah, and of Jedaiah; and come the same day, and go into the house of Josiah the son of Zephaniah, where they have come from Babylon.
11And thou shalt take silver and gold, and make crowns, and thou shalt put [them] upon the head of Jesus the son of Josedec the high priest;
11Yes, take silver and gold, and make crowns, and set them on the head of Joshua the son of Jehozadak, the high priest;
12and thou shalt say to him, Thus saith the Lord Almighty; Beholdthe man whose name is The Branch; and he shall spring up from his stem, and build the house of the Lord.
12and speak to him, saying, ‘Yahweh of Armies says, “Behold, the man whose name is the Branch! He will grow up out of his place; and he will build Yahweh’s temple.
13And he shall receive power, and shall sit and rule upon his throne; and there shall be a priest on his right hand, and a peaceable counsel shall be between [them] both.
13He will build Yahweh’s temple. He will bear the glory, and will sit and rule on his throne. He will be a priest on his throne. The counsel of peace will be between them both.
14And the crown shall be to them that wait patiently, and to the useful men of the captivity, and to them that have known it, and for the favour of the son of Sophonias, and for a psalm in the house of the Lord.
14The crowns shall be to Helem, to Tobijah, to Jedaiah, and to Hen the son of Zephaniah, for a memorial in Yahweh’s temple.
15And they [that are] far from them shall come and build in the house of the Lord, and ye shall know that the Lord Almighty has sent me to you: and [this] shall come to pass, if ye will diligently hearken to the voice of the Lord your God.
15Those who are far off shall come and build in Yahweh’s temple; and you shall know that Yahweh of Armies has sent me to you. This will happen, if you will diligently obey Yahweh your God’s voice.”’”
