1And [David] made for himself houses in the city of David, and he prepared a place for the ark of God, and made a tent for it.
1David made himself houses in David’s city; and he prepared a place for God’s ark, and pitched a tent for it.
2Then said David , It is not [lawful for any] to bear the ark of God, but the Levites; for the Lord has chosen them to bear the ark of the Lord, and to minister to him for ever.
2Then David said, “No one ought to carry God’s ark but the Levites. For Yahweh has chosen them to carry God’s ark, and to minister to him forever.”
3And David assembled all Israel at Jerusalem, to bring up the ark of the Lord to the placewhich he [had] prepared for it.
3David assembled all Israel at Jerusalem, to bring up Yahweh’s ark to its place, which he had prepared for it.
4And David gathered together the sons of Aaron the Levites.
4David gathered together the sons of Aaron and the Levites:
5Of the sons of Caath; [there was] Uriel the chief, and his brethren, a hundred and twenty.
5of the sons of Kohath, Uriel the chief, and his brothers one hundred twenty;
6Of the sons of Merari; Asaia the chief, and his brethren, two hundred and twenty.
6of the sons of Merari, Asaiah the chief, and his brothers two hundred twenty;
7Of the sons of Gedson; Joel the chief, and his brethren, a hundred and thirty.
7of the sons of Gershom, Joel the chief, and his brothers one hundred thirty;
8Of the sons of Elisaphat; Semei the chief, and his brethren, two hundred.
8of the sons of Elizaphan, Shemaiah the chief, and his brothers two hundred;
9Of the sons of Chebrom; Eliel the chief, and his brethren eighty.
9of the sons of Hebron, Eliel the chief, and his brothers eighty;
10Of the sons of Oziel; Aminadab the chief, and his brethren a hundred and twelve.
10of the sons of Uzziel, Amminadab the chief, and his brothers one hundred twelve.
11And David called Sadoc and Abiathar the priests, and the Levites, Uriel, Asaia, and Joel, and Semaia, and Eliel, and Aminadab,
11David called for Zadok and Abiathar the priests, and for the Levites: for Uriel, Asaiah, Joel, Shemaiah, Eliel, and Amminadab,
12and said to them, Ye [are] the heads of the families of the Levites: sanctify yourselves, you and your brethren, and ye shall carry up the ark of the God of Israel, [to the place] which I have prepared for it.
12and said to them, “You are the heads of the fathers’ households of the Levites. Sanctify yourselves, both you and your brothers, that you may bring the ark of Yahweh, the God of Israel, up to the place that I have prepared for it.
13For because ye were not [ready] at the first, our God made a breach upon us, because we sought him not according to the ordinance.
13For because you didn’t carry it at first, Yahweh our God broke out in anger against us, because we didn’t seek him according to the ordinance.”
14So the priests and the Levites sanctified themselves, to bring up the ark of the God of Israel.
14So the priests and the Levites sanctified themselves to bring up the ark of Yahweh, the God of Israel.
15And the sons of the Levites took the ark of God, (as Moses commanded by the word of God according to the scripture) upon their shoulders with staves.
15The children of the Levites bore God’s ark on their shoulders with its poles, as Moses commanded according to Yahweh’s word.
16And David said to the chiefs of the Levites, Set your brethren the singers with musical instruments , lutes, harps, and cymbals, to sound aloud with a voice of joy.
16David spoke to the chief of the Levites to appoint their brothers as singers with instruments of music, stringed instruments, harps, and cymbals, sounding aloud and lifting up their voices with joy.
17So the Levites appointed Æman the son of Joel; Asaph the son of Barachias [was one] of his brethren; and Æthan the son of Kisæus was of the sons of Merari their brethren;
17So the Levites appointed Heman the son of Joel; and of his brothers, Asaph the son of Berechiah; and of the sons of Merari their brothers, Ethan the son of Kushaiah;
18and with them their brethren of the second rank, Zacharias, and Oziel, and Semiramoth, and Jeiel, and Elioel, and Eliab, and Banaia, and Maasaia, and Matthathia, and Eliphena, and Makellia, and Abdedom, and Jeiel, and Ozias, the porters.
18and with them their brothers of the second rank: Zechariah, Ben, Jaaziel, Shemiramoth, Jehiel, Unni, Eliab, Benaiah, Maaseiah, Mattithiah, Eliphelehu, Mikneiah, Obed-Edom, and Jeiel, the doorkeepers.
19And the singers, Æman, Asaph, and Æthan, with brazen cymbals to make [a sound] to be heard.
19So the singers, Heman, Asaph, and Ethan, were given cymbals of bronze to sound aloud;
20Zacharias, and Oziel, Semiramoth, Jeiel, Oni, Eliab, Maasæas, Banæas, with lutes, on alæmoth.
20and Zechariah, Aziel, Shemiramoth, Jehiel, Unni, Eliab, Maaseiah, and Benaiah, with stringed instruments set to Alamoth;
21And Mattathias, and Eliphalu, and Makenia, and Abdedom, and Jeiel, and Ozias, with harps of Amasenith, to make a loud noise.
21and Mattithiah, Eliphelehu, Mikneiah, Obed-Edom, Jeiel, and Azaziah, with harps tuned to the eight-stringed lyre, to lead.
22And Chonenia chief of the Levites [was] master of the bands, because he was skilful.
22Chenaniah, chief of the Levites, was over the singing. He taught the singers, because he was skillful.
23And Barachia and Elcana [were] door-keepers of the ark.
23Berechiah and Elkanah were doorkeepers for the ark.
24And Somnia, and Josaphat, and Nathanael, and Amasai, and Zacharia, and Banæa, and Eliezer, the priests, were sounding with trumpets before the ark of God: and Abdedom and Jeia [were] door-keepers of the ark of God.
24Shebaniah, Joshaphat, Nethanel, Amasai, Zechariah, Benaiah, and Eliezer, the priests, blew the trumpets before God’s ark; and Obed-Edom and Jehiah were doorkeepers for the ark.
25So David, and the elders of Israel, and the captains of thousands, went to bring up the ark of the covenant from the house of Abdedom with gladness.
25So David, the elders of Israel, and the captains over thousands went to bring the ark of Yahweh’s covenant up out of the house of Obed-Edom with joy.
26And it came to pass when God strengthened the Levites bearing the ark of the covenant of the Lord, that they sacrificed seven calves and seven rams.
26When God helped the Levites who bore the ark of Yahweh’s covenant, they sacrificed seven bulls and seven rams.
27And David [was] girt with a fine linen robe, and all the Levites [who were] bearing the ark of the covenant of the Lord, and the singers, and Chonenias the master of the band of singers; also upon David [there was] a robe of fine linen .
27David was clothed with a robe of fine linen, as were all the Levites who bore the ark, the singers, and Chenaniah the choir master with the singers; and David had an ephod of linen on him.
28And all Israel brought up the ark of the covenant of the Lord with shouting, and with the sound of a horn, and with trumpets, and with cymbals, playing loudly on lutes and harps.
28Thus all Israel brought the ark of Yahweh’s covenant up with shouting, with sound of the cornet, with trumpets, and with cymbals, sounding aloud with stringed instruments and harps.
29And the ark of the covenant of the Lord arrived, and came to the city of David; and Melchol the daughter of Saul looked down through the window, and saw king David dancing and playing: and she despised him in her heart.
29As the ark of Yahweh’s covenant came to David’s city, Michal the daughter of Saul looked out at the window, and saw king David dancing and playing; and she despised him in her heart.
1So they brought in the ark of God, and set it in the midst of the tabernacle which David pitched for it; and they offered whole-burnt -offerings and peace -offerings before God.
1They brought in God’s ark, and set it in the middle of the tent that David had pitched for it; and they offered burnt offerings and peace offerings before God.
2And David finished offering up whole-burnt-offerings and peace -offerings, and blessed the people in the name of the Lord.
2When David had finished offering the burnt offering and the peace offerings, he blessed the people in Yahweh’s name.
3And he divided to every man of Israel (both men and women), to [every] man one baker's loaf , and a cake .
3He gave to everyone of Israel, both man and woman, to everyone a loaf of bread, a portion of meat, and a cake of raisins.
4And he appointed before the ark of the covenant of the Lord, Levites to minister [and] lift up the voice, and to give thanks and praise the Lord God of Israel:
4He appointed some of the Levites to minister before Yahweh’s ark, and to commemorate, to thank, and to praise Yahweh, the God of Israel:
5Asaph [was] the chief, and next to him Zacharias, Jeiel, Semiramoth, and Jeiel, Mattathias, Eliab, and Banæas, and Abdedom: and Jeiel sounding with musical instruments , lutes [and] harps, and Asaph with cymbals:
5Asaph the chief, and second to him Zechariah, then Jeiel, Shemiramoth, Jehiel, Mattithiah, Eliab, Benaiah, Obed-Edom, and Jeiel, with stringed instruments and with harps; and Asaph with cymbals, sounding aloud;
6and Banæas and Oziel the priests [sounding] continually with trumpets before the ark of the covenant of God in that day.
6with Benaiah and Jahaziel the priests with trumpets continually, before the ark of the covenant of God.
7Then David first gave orders to praise the Lord by the hand of Asaph and his brethren.
7Then on that day David first ordained giving of thanks to Yahweh by the hand of Asaph and his brothers.
8Song. Give thanks to the Lord, call upon him by his name, make known his designs among the people.
8Oh give thanks to Yahweh. Call on his name. Make what he has done known among the peoples.
9Sing [songs] to him, and sing hymns to him, relate to all [people] his wonderful deeds, which the Lord has wrought.
9Sing to him. Sing praises to him. Tell of all his marvelous works.
10Praise his holy name, the heart that seeks his pleasure shall rejoice.
10Glory in his holy name. Let the heart of those who seek Yahweh rejoice.
11Seek the Lord and be strong, seek his face continually.
11Seek Yahweh and his strength. Seek his face forever more.
12Remember his wonderful works which he has wrought, his wonders, and the judgments of his mouth;
12Remember his marvelous works that he has done, his wonders, and the judgments of his mouth,
13[ye] seed of Israel his servants, [ye] seed of Jacobhis chosen ones.
13you offspring of Israel his servant, you children of Jacob, his chosen ones.
14He [is] the Lord our God; his judgments [are] in all the earth.
14He is Yahweh our God. His judgments are in all the earth.
15Let us remember his covenant for ever, his word which he commanded to a thousand generations,
15Remember his covenant forever, the word which he commanded to a thousand generations,
16which he covenanted with Abraham, and his oath [sworn] to Isaac.
16the covenant which he made with Abraham, his oath to Isaac.
17He confirmed it to Jacob for an ordinance, to Israel [as] an everlasting covenant,
17He confirmed it to Jacob for a statute, and to Israel for an everlasting covenant,
18saying, To thee will I give the land of Chanaan, the line of your inheritance:
18saying, “I will give you the land of Canaan, The lot of your inheritance,”
19when they were few in number, when they were but little, and dwelt as strangers in it;
19when you were but a few men in number, yes, very few, and foreigners in it.
20and went from nation to nation, and from one kingdom to another people.
20They went about from nation to nation, from one kingdom to another people.
21He suffered not a man to oppress them , and he reproved kings for their sakes,
21He allowed no man to do them wrong. Yes, he reproved kings for their sakes,
22saying, Touch not my anointed ones, and deal not wrongfully with my prophets.
22“Don’t touch my anointed ones! Do my prophets no harm!”
23Sing ye to the Lord, all the earth; proclaim his salvation from day to day. Declare among the nations his glory, his wondrous deeds among all peoples.
23Sing to Yahweh, all the earth! Display his salvation from day to day.
25For the Lord [is] great , and greatly to be praised: he [is] to be feared above all gods.
25For great is Yahweh, and greatly to be praised. He also is to be feared above all gods.
26For all the gods of the nations [are] idols; but our God made the heavens.
26For all the gods of the peoples are idols, but Yahweh made the heavens.
27Glory and praise [are] in his presence; strength and rejoicing [are] in his place.
27Honor and majesty are before him. Strength and gladness are in his place.
28Give to the Lord, ye families of the nations, give to the Lord glory and strength.
28Ascribe to Yahweh, you families of the peoples, ascribe to Yahweh glory and strength!
29Give to the Lord the glory [belonging] to his name: take gifts and offer [them] before him; and worship the Lord in his holy courts.
29Ascribe to Yahweh the glory due to his name. Bring an offering, and come before him. Worship Yahweh in holy array.
30Let the whole earth fear before him; let the earth be established, and not be moved.
30Tremble before him, all the earth. The world also is established that it can’t be moved.
31Let the heavens rejoice, and let the earth exult; and let them say among the nations, The Lord reigns.
31Let the heavens be glad, and let the earth rejoice! Let them say among the nations, “Yahweh reigns!”
32The sea with its fulness shall resound and the tree of the field , and all things in it.
32Let the sea roar, and its fullness! Let the field exult, and all that is in it!
33Then shall the trees of the wood rejoice before the Lord, for he is come to judge the earth.
33Then the trees of the forest will sing for joy before Yahweh, for he comes to judge the earth.
34Give thanks to the Lord, for [it is] good, for his mercy [is] for ever.
34Oh give thanks to Yahweh, for he is good, for his loving kindness endures forever.
35And say ye, Save us, O God of our salvation, and gather us, and rescue us from among the heathen, that we may praise thy holy name, and glory in thy praises.
35Say, “Save us, God of our salvation! Gather us together and deliver us from the nations, to give thanks to your holy name, to triumph in your praise.”
36Blessed [be] the Lord God of Israelfrom everlasting and to everlasting: And all the people shall say, Amen. So they praised the Lord.
36Blessed be Yahweh, the God of Israel, from everlasting even to everlasting. All the people said, “Amen,” and praised Yahweh.
37And they left there Asaph and his brethren before the ark of the covenant of the Lord, to minister before the ark continually, according to the service of each day: from day to day.
37So he left Asaph and his brothers there before the ark of Yahweh’s covenant, to minister before the ark continually, as every day’s work required;
38And Abdedom and his brethren [were] sixty and eight ; and Abdedom the son of Idithun, and Osa, [were] to be door-keepers.
38and Obed-Edom with their sixty-eight relatives; Obed-Edom also the son of Jeduthun and Hosah to be doorkeepers;
39And [they appointed] Sadoc the priest, and his brethren the priests, before the tabernacle of the Lord in the high place in Gabaon,
39and Zadok the priest and his brothers the priests, before Yahweh’s tabernacle in the high place that was at Gibeon,
40to offer up whole-burnt -offerings to the Lord on the altar of whole-burnt-offerings continually morning and evening, and according to all things written in the law of the Lord, which he commanded the children of Israel by Moses the servant of God.
40to offer burnt offerings to Yahweh on the altar of burnt offering continually morning and evening, even according to all that is written in Yahweh’s law, which he commanded to Israel;
41And with him [were] Æman and Idithun, and the rest chosen out by nameto praise the Lord, for his mercy [endures] for ever.
41and with them Heman and Jeduthun and the rest who were chosen, who were mentioned by name, to give thanks to Yahweh, because his loving kindness endures forever;
42And with them [there were] trumpets and cymbals to sound aloud, and musical instruments for the songs of God: and the sons of Idithun [were] at the gate.
42and with them Heman and Jeduthun with trumpets and cymbals for those that should sound aloud, and with instruments for the songs of God, and the sons of Jeduthun to be at the gate.
43And all the people went every one to his home: and David returned to bless his house.
43All the people departed, each man to his house; and David returned to bless his house.
