1Moreover the Spirit took me up, and brought me to the front gate of the house of the Lord, that looks eastward: and behold at the entrance of the gate were about five and twenty men; and I saw in the midst of them Jechonias the son of Ezer, and Phaltias the son of Banæas, the leaders of the people.
1Moreover the Spirit lifted me up and brought me to the east gate of Yahweh’s house, which looks eastward. Behold, twenty-five men were at the door of the gate; and I saw among them Jaazaniah the son of Azzur, and Pelatiah the son of Benaiah, princes of the people.
2And the Lord said to me, Son of man, these are the men that devise vanities, and take evil counsel in this city:
2He said to me, “Son of man, these are the men who devise iniquity, and who give wicked counsel in this city;
3who say, Have not the houses been newly built? This is the caldron, and we are the flesh.
3who say, ‘The time is not near to build houses. This is the cauldron, and we are the meat.’
4Therefore prophesy against them, prophesy, son of man.
4Therefore prophesy against them. Prophesy, son of man.”
5And the Spirit of the Lord fell upon me, and said to me, say; Thus saith the Lord; Thus have ye said, O house of Israel: and I know the devices of your spirit.
5Yahweh’s Spirit fell on me, and he said to me, “Speak, ‘Yahweh says: “Thus you have said, house of Israel; for I know the things that come into your mind.
6Ye have multiplied your dead in this city, and ye have filled your ways with slain men.
6You have multiplied your slain in this city, and you have filled its streets with the slain.”
7Therefore thus saith the Lord; Your dead whom ye have smitten in the midst of it, these are the flesh, and this[city] is the caldron: but I will bring you forth out of the midst of it.
7“‘Therefore the Lord Yahweh says: “Your slain whom you have laid in the middle of it, they are the meat, and this is the cauldron; but you will be brought out of the middle of it.
8Ye fear the sword; and I will bring a sword upon you, saith the Lord .
8You have feared the sword; and I will bring the sword on you,” says the Lord Yahweh.
9And I will bring you forth out of the midst of it, and will deliver you into the hands of strangers, and will execute judgments among you.
9“I will bring you out of the middle of it, and deliver you into the hands of strangers, and will execute judgments among you.
10Ye shall fall by the sword; I will judge you on the mountains of Israel; and ye shall know that I am the Lord.
10You will fall by the sword. I will judge you in the border of Israel. Then you will know that I am Yahweh.
13And it came to pass, while I was prophesying, that Phaltias the son of Banæas died. And I fell upon my face, and cried with a loud voice, and said, Alas, alas, O Lord ! wilt thou utterly destroy the remnant of Israel?
13When I prophesied, Pelatiah the son of Benaiah died. Then I fell down on my face, and cried with a loud voice, and said, “Ah Lord Yahweh! Will you make a full end of the remnant of Israel?”
14And the word of the Lord came to me, saying,
14Yahweh’s word came to me, saying,
15Son of man, thy brethren, and the men of thy captivity, and all the house of Israelare come to the full, to whom the inhabitants of Jerusalem said, Keep ye far away from the Lord: the land is given to us for an inheritance.
15“Son of man, your brothers, even your brothers, the men of your relatives, and all the house of Israel, all of them, are the ones to whom the inhabitants of Jerusalem have said, ‘Go far away from Yahweh. This land has been given to us for a possession.’
16Therefore say thou, Thus saith the Lord; I will cast them off among the nations, and will disperse them into every land, yet will I be to them for a little sanctuary in the countries which they shall enter.
16“Therefore say, ‘The Lord Yahweh says: “Whereas I have removed them far off among the nations, and whereas I have scattered them among the countries, yet I will be to them a sanctuary for a little while in the countries where they have come.”’
17Therefore say thou, Thus saith the Lord; I will also take them from the heathen, and gather them out of the lands wherein I have scattered them, and will give them the land of Israel.
17“Therefore say, ‘The Lord Yahweh says: “I will gather you from the peoples, and assemble you out of the countries where you have been scattered, and I will give you the land of Israel.”
18And they shall enter in there, and shall remove all the abominations of it, and all its iniquities from it.
18“‘They will come there, and they will take away all its detestable things and all its abominations from there.
19And I will give them another heart, and will put a new spirit within them; and will extract the heart of stone from their flesh, and give them a heart of flesh:
19I will give them one heart, and I will put a new spirit within them. I will take the stony heart out of their flesh, and will give them a heart of flesh,
20that they may walk in my commandments, and keep mine ordinances, and do them: and they shall be to me a people, and I will be to them a God.
20that they may walk in my statutes, and keep my ordinances, and do them. They will be my people, and I will be their God.
21And as for the heart [set upon] their abominations and their iniquities, as their heart went [after them], I have recompensed their ways on their heads, saith the Lord .
21But as for them whose heart walks after the heart of their detestable things and their abominations, I will bring their way on their own heads,’ says the Lord Yahweh.”
22Then the cherubs lifted up their wings, and the wheels beside them; and the glory of the God of Israel was over them above.
22Then the cherubim lifted up their wings, and the wheels were beside them. The glory of the God of Israel was over them above.
23And the glory of the Lord went up from the midst of the city, and stood on the mountain which was in front of the city.
23Yahweh’s glory went up from the middle of the city, and stood on the mountain which is on the east side of the city.
24And the Spirit took me up, and brought me to the land of the Chaldeans, to the captivity, in a vision by the Spirit of God: and I went up after the vision which I saw.
24The Spirit lifted me up, and brought me in the vision by the Spirit of God into Chaldea, to the captives. So the vision that I had seen went up from me.
25And I spoke to the captivity all the words of the Lord which he had shewed me.
25Then I spoke to the captives all the things that Yahweh had shown me.
1And the word of the Lord came to me, saying,
1Yahweh’s word also came to me, saying,
2Son of man, thou dwellest in the midst of the iniquities of those, who have eyes to see, and see not; and have ears to hear, and hear not: because it is a provoking house.
2“Son of man, you dwell in the middle of the rebellious house, who have eyes to see, and don’t see, who have ears to hear, and don’t hear; for they are a rebellious house.
3Thou therefore, son of man, prepare thyself baggage for going into captivity by day in their sight; and thou shalt be led into captivity from thy place into another place in their sight; that they may see that it is a provoking house.
3“Therefore, you son of man, prepare your baggage for moving, and move by day in their sight. You shall move from your place to another place in their sight. It may be they will consider, though they are a rebellious house.
4And thou shalt carry forth thy baggage, baggage for captivity, by day before their eyes: and thou shalt go forth at even, as a captive goes forth, in their sight.
4You shall bring out your baggage by day in their sight, as baggage for moving. You shall go out yourself at evening in their sight, as when men go out into exile.
5Dig for thyself into the wall [of the house], and thou shalt pass through it in their sight:
5Dig through the wall in their sight, and carry your baggage out that way.
6thou shalt be lifted up on [men's] shoulders, and shalt go forth in secret: thou shalt cover thy face, and shalt not see the ground: because I have made thee a sign to the house of Israel.
6In their sight you shall bear it on your shoulder, and carry it out in the dark. You shall cover your face, so that you don’t see the land, for I have set you for a sign to the house of Israel.”
7And I did thus according to all that he commanded me; and I carried forth my baggage for captivity by day, and in the evening I dug through the wall for myself, and went out secretly; I was taken up on [men's] shoulders before them.
7I did so as I was commanded. I brought out my baggage by day, as baggage for moving, and in the evening I dug through the wall with my hand. I brought it out in the dark, and bore it on my shoulder in their sight.
8And the word of the Lord came to me in the morning, saying,
8In the morning, Yahweh’s word came to me, saying,
9Son of man, have not the house of Israel, the provoking house, said to thee, What doest thou?
9“Son of man, hasn’t the house of Israel, the rebellious house, said to you, ‘What are you doing?’
10Say to them, Thus saith the Lord God, the Prince and the Ruler in Israel, even to all the house of Israel who are in the midst of them:
10“Say to them, ‘The Lord Yahweh says: “This burden concerns the prince in Jerusalem, and all the house of Israel among whom they are.”’
11say, I am performing signs: as I have done, so shall it be to him: they shall go into banishment and captivity.
11“Say, ‘I am your sign. As I have done, so will it be done to them. They will go into exile, into captivity.
12And the prince in the midst of them shall be borne upon shoulders, and shall go forth in secret through the wall, and shall dig so that he may go forth thereby: he shall cover his face, that he may not be seen by [any] eye, and he himself shall not see the ground.
12“‘The prince who is among them will bear his baggage on his shoulder in the dark, and will go out. They will dig through the wall to carry things out that way. He will cover his face, because he will not see the land with his eyes.
13And I will spread out my net upon him, and he shall be caught in my toils: and I will bring him to Babylon to the land of the Chaldeans; but he shall not see it, though he shall die there.
13I will also spread my net on him, and he will be taken in my snare. I will bring him to Babylon to the land of the Chaldeans; yet he will not see it, though he will die there.
14And I will scatter to every wind all his assistants round about him, and all that help him; and I will draw out a sword after them.
14I will scatter toward every wind all who are around him to help him, and all his bands. I will draw out the sword after them.
15And they shall know that I am the Lord, when I have scattered them among the nations; and I will disperse them in the countries.
15“‘They will know that I am Yahweh when I disperse them among the nations and scatter them through the countries.
16And I will leave of them [a few] men in number [spared] from the sword, and from famine, and from pestilence; that they may declare all their iniquities among the nations whither they have gone; and they shall know that I am the Lord.
16But I will leave a few men of them from the sword, from the famine, and from the pestilence, that they may declare all their abominations among the nations where they come. Then they will know that I am Yahweh.’”
17And the word of the Lord came to me, saying,
17Moreover Yahweh’s word came to me, saying,
18Son of man, eat thy bread with sorrow, and drink [thy] water with torment and affliction.
18“Son of man, eat your bread with quaking, and drink your water with trembling and with fearfulness.
19And thou shalt say to the people of the land, Thus saith the Lord to the inhabitants of Jerusalem on the land of Israel; They shall eat their bread in scarcity, and shall drink their water in desolation, that the land may be desolate with all that it contains: for all that dwell in it are ungodly.
19Tell the people of the land, ‘The Lord Yahweh says concerning the inhabitants of Jerusalem and the land of Israel: “They will eat their bread with fearfulness and drink their water in dismay, that her land may be desolate, and all that is therein, because of the violence of all those who dwell therein.
20And their inhabited cities shall be laid utterly waste, and the land shall be desolate; and ye shall know that I am the Lord.
20The cities that are inhabited will be laid waste, and the land will be a desolation. Then you will know that I am Yahweh.”’”
21And the word of the Lord came to me, saying,
21Yahweh’s word came to me, saying,
22Son of man, what is your parable on the land of Israel, that ye say, The days are long, the vision has perished?
22“Son of man, what is this proverb that you have in the land of Israel, saying, ‘The days are prolonged, and every vision fails’?
23Therefore say to them , Thus saith the Lord; I will even set aside this parable, and the house of Israel shall no more at all use this parable: for thou shalt say to them, The days are at hand, and the import of every vision.
23Tell them therefore, ‘The Lord Yahweh says: “I will make this proverb to cease, and they will no more use it as a proverb in Israel;”’ but tell them, ‘“The days are at hand, and the fulfillment of every vision.
24For there shall no more be any false vision, nor any one prophesying flatteries in the midst of the children of Israel.
24For there will be no more any false vision nor flattering divination within the house of Israel.
25For I the Lord will speak my words; I will speak and perform [them], and will no more delay, for in your days, O provoking house, I will speak the word, and will perform [it], saith the Lord .
25For I am Yahweh. I will speak, and the word that I speak will be performed. It will be no more deferred; for in your days, rebellious house, I will speak the word and will perform it,” says the Lord Yahweh.’”
26Moreover the word of the Lord came to me, saying,
26Again Yahweh’s word came to me, saying,
27Son of man, behold, the provoking house of Israel boldly say, The vision which this man sees is for many days , and he prophesies for times afar off.
27“Son of man, behold, they of the house of Israel say, ‘The vision that he sees is for many days to come, and he prophesies of times that are far off.’
28Therefore say to them, Thus saith the Lord; Henceforth none of my words shall linger, which I shall speak: I will speak and do, saith the Lord .
28“Therefore tell them, ‘The Lord Yahweh says: “None of my words will be deferred any more, but the word which I speak will be performed,” says the Lord Yahweh.’”
