1In the eighth month, in the second year of [the reign of] Darius, the word of the Lord came to Zacharias, the son of Barachias, the son of Addo, the prophet, saying,
1In the eighth month, in the second year of Darius, Yahweh’s word came to the prophet Zechariah the son of Berechiah, the son of Iddo, saying,
2The Lord has been very angry with your fathers.
2“Yahweh was very displeased with your fathers.
3And thou shalt say to them, Thus saith the Lord Almighty; Turn to me, saith the Lord of hosts, and I will turn to you, saith the Lord of hosts.
3Therefore tell them, Yahweh of Armies says: ‘Return to me,’ says Yahweh of Armies, and I will return to you,’ says Yahweh of Armies.
4And be ye not as your fathers, whom the prophets before charged, saying, Thus saith the Lord Almighty: Turn ye from your evil ways, and from your evil practices: but they hearkened not, and attended not to hearken to me, saith the Lord.
4Don’t you be like your fathers, to whom the former prophets proclaimed, saying: Yahweh of Armies says, ‘Return now from your evil ways and from your evil doings;’ but they didn’t hear nor listen to me, says Yahweh.
5Where are your fathers, and the prophets? Will they live for ever?
5Your fathers, where are they? And the prophets, do they live forever?
6But do ye receive my words and mine ordinances, all that I command by my Spirit to my servants the prophets, who lived in the days of your fathers; and they answered and said, As the Lord Almighty determined to do to us, according to our ways, and according to our practices, so has he done to us.
6But my words and my decrees, which I commanded my servants the prophets, didn’t they overtake your fathers? “Then they repented and said, ‘Just as Yahweh of Armies determined to do to us, according to our ways and according to our practices, so he has dealt with us.’”
7On the twenty-fourth [day] in the eleventh month, this is the month Sabat, in the second year of [the reign of] Darius, the word of the Lord came to Zacharias, the son of Barachias, the son of Addo, the prophet, saying,
7On the twenty-fourth day of the eleventh month, which is the month Shebat, in the second year of Darius, Yahweh’s word came to the prophet Zechariah the son of Berechiah, the son of Iddo, saying,
8I saw by night, and beholda man mounted on a red horse, and he stood between the shady mountains; and behind him were red horses, and grey, and piebald, and white .
8I had a vision in the night, and behold, a man riding on a red horse, and he stood among the myrtle trees that were in a ravine; and behind him there were red, brown, and white horses.
9And I said, What are these, [my] lord? And the angel that spoke with me said to me, I will shew thee what these [things] are.
9Then I asked, ‘My lord, what are these?’” The angel who talked with me said to me, I will show you what these are.
10And the man that stood between the mountains answered, and said to me, These are [they] whom the Lord has sent forth to go round the earth.
10The man who stood among the myrtle trees answered, “They are the ones Yahweh has sent to go back and forth through the earth.
11And they answered the angel of the Lord that stood between the mountains, and said, We have gone round all the earth, and, behold, all the earth is inhabited, and is at rest .
11They reported to Yahweh’s angel who stood among the myrtle trees, and said, We have walked back and forth through the earth, and behold, all the earth is at rest and in peace.
12Then the angel of the Lord answered and said, O Lord Almighty, how long wilt thou have no mercy on Jerusalem, and the cities of Juda, which thou hast disregarded these seventy years?
12Then Yahweh’s angel replied, O Yahweh of Armies, how long will you not have mercy on Jerusalem and on the cities of Judah, against which you have had indignation these seventy years?
13And the Lord Almighty answered the angel that spoke with me good words and consolatory sayings.
13Yahweh answered the angel who talked with me with kind and comforting words.
14And the angel that spoke with me said to me, Cry out and say, Thus saith the Lord Almighty; I have been jealous for Jerusalem and Sion with great jealousy.
14So the angel who talked with me said to me, “Proclaim, saying, ‘Yahweh of Armies says: “I am jealous for Jerusalem and for Zion with a great jealousy.
15And I am very angry with the heathen that combine to attack [her]: forasmuch as I indeed was a little angry, but they combined to attack [her] for evil.
15I am very angry with the nations that are at ease; for I was but a little displeased, but they added to the calamity.
16Therefore thus saith the Lord: I will return to Jerusalem with compassion; and my house shall be rebuilt in her, saith the Lord Almighty, and a measuring line shall yet be stretched out over Jerusalem.
16Therefore Yahweh says: I have returned to Jerusalem with mercy. My house shall be built in it,” says Yahweh of Armies, and a line shall be stretched out over Jerusalem.”’
17And the angel that spoke with me said to me, Cry yet, and say, Thus saith the Lord Almighty; Yet shall cities be spread abroad through prosperity; and the Lord shall yet have mercy upon Sion, and shall choose Jerusalem.
17“Proclaim further, saying, ‘Yahweh of Armies says: “My cities will again overflow with prosperity, and Yahweh will again comfort Zion, and will again choose Jerusalem.”’”
1And I lifted up mine eyesand looked, and behold four horns.
1I lifted up my eyes, and saw, and behold, a man with a measuring line in his hand.
2And I said to the angel that spoke with me, What are these things, [my] lord? And he said to me, These are the horns that have scattered Juda, and Israel, and Jerusalem.
2Then I asked, “Where are you going?” He said to me, “To measure Jerusalem, to see what is its width and what is its length.
3And the Lord shewed me four artificers.
3Behold, the angel who talked with me went out, and another angel went out to meet him,
4And I said, What are these coming to do? And he said, These are the horns that scattered Juda, and they broke Israel in pieces, and none of them lifted up his head: and these are come forth to sharpen them for their hands, [even] the four horns, the nations that lifted up the horn against the land of the Lord to scatter it.
4and said to him, “Run, speak to this young man, saying, ‘Jerusalem will be inhabited as villages without walls, because of the multitude of men and livestock in it.
5And I lifted up mine eyes, and looked, and behold a man, and in his hand a measuring line.
5For I,’ says Yahweh, ‘will be to her a wall of fire around it, and I will be the glory in the middle of her.
6And I said to him, Whither goest thou? And he said to me, To measure Jerusalem, to see what is the breadth of it, and what is the length of it.
6Come! Come! Flee from the land of the north,’ says Yahweh; ‘for I have spread you abroad as the four winds of the sky,’ says Yahweh.
7And, behold, the angel that spoke with me stood [by], and another angel went forth to meet him,
7‘Come, Zion! Escape, you who dwell with the daughter of Babylon.’
8and spoke to him, saying, Run and speak to that young man, saying, Jerusalem shall be fully inhabited by reason of the abundance of men and cattle in the midst of her.
8For Yahweh of Armies says: ‘For honor he has sent me to the nations which plundered you; for he who touches you touches the apple of his eye.
9And I will be to her, saith the Lord, a wall of fire round about, and I will be for a glory in the midst of her.
9For, behold, I will shake my hand over them, and they will be a plunder to those who served them; and you will know that Yahweh of Armies has sent me.
10Ho, ho, flee from the land of the north, saith the Lord: for I will gather you from the four winds of heaven, saith the Lord,
10Sing and rejoice, daughter of Zion! For behold, I come and I will dwell within you,’ says Yahweh.
11[even] to Sion: deliver yourselves, ye that dwell [with] the daughter of Babylon.
11Many nations shall join themselves to Yahweh in that day, and shall be my people; and I will dwell among you, and you shall know that Yahweh of Armies has sent me to you.
12For thus saith the Lord Almighty; After the glory has he sent me to the nations that spoiled you: for he that touches you is as one that touches the apple of his eye.
12Yahweh will inherit Judah as his portion in the holy land, and will again choose Jerusalem.
13For, behold, I bring my hand upon them, and they shall be a spoil to them that serve them: and ye shall know that the Lord Almighty has sent me.
13Be silent, all flesh, before Yahweh; for he has roused himself from his holy habitation!”
1And the Lord shewed me Jesus the high priest standing before the angel of the Lord, and the Devil stood on his right hand to resist him. And the Lord said to the Devil,
1He showed me Joshua the high priest standing before Yahweh’s angel, and Satan standing at his right hand to be his adversary.
2The Lord rebuke thee, O Devil, even the Lord that has chosen Jerusalem rebuke thee: behold! is not this as a brand plucked from the fire?
2Yahweh said to Satan, “Yahweh rebuke you, Satan! Yes, Yahweh who has chosen Jerusalem rebuke you! Isn’t this a burning stick plucked out of the fire?
3Now Jesus was clothed in filthy raiment, and stood before the angel.
3Now Joshua was clothed with filthy garments, and was standing before the angel.
4And [the Lord] answered and spoke to those who stood before him, saying, Take away the filthy raiment from him: and he said to him, Behold, I have taken away thine iniquities: and clothe ye him with a long robe,
4He answered and spoke to those who stood before him, saying, Take the filthy garments off him.” To him he said, Behold, I have caused your iniquity to pass from you, and I will clothe you with rich clothing.”
5and place a pure mitre upon his head.So they placed a pure mitre upon his head, and clothed him with garments: and the angel of the Lord stood [by].
5I said, “Let them set a clean turban on his head.So they set a clean turban on his head, and clothed him; and Yahweh’s angel was standing by.
6And the angel of the Lord testified to Jesus, saying,
6Yahweh’s angel solemnly assured Joshua, saying,
7Thus saith the Lord Almighty; If thou wilt walk in my ways, and take heed to my charges, then shalt thou judge my house: and if thou wilt diligently keep my court, then will I give thee men to walk in the midst of these that stand [here].
7“Yahweh of Armies says: ‘If you will walk in my ways, and if you will follow my instructions, then you also shall judge my house, and shall also keep my courts, and I will give you a place of access among these who stand by.
8Hear now, Jesus the high priest, thou, and thy neighbours that are sitting before [thee]: for they are diviners, for, behold, I bring forth my servant The Branch.
8Hear now, Joshua the high priest, you and your fellows who sit before you, for they are men who are a sign; for, behold, I will bring out my servant, the Branch.
9For [as for] the stone which I have set before the face of Jesus, on the one stone are seven eyes: behold, I am digging a trench, saith the Lord Almighty, and I will search out all the iniquity of that land in one day.
9For, behold, the stone that I have set before Joshua: on one stone are seven eyes; behold, I will engrave its inscription,’ says Yahweh of Armies, and I will remove the iniquity of that land in one day.
10In that day, saith the Lord Almighty, ye shall call together every man his neighbour under the vine and under the fig -tree.
10In that day,’ says Yahweh of Armies, ‘you will invite every man his neighbor under the vine and under the fig tree.’”
